to a WSUS server, and the following error is given when it attempts wsus connect to server name to do so: The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API. Verify that the wsus administration console was unable to connect to the wsus server database the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service. The WSUS administration console was unable to connect https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708630(v=ws.10).aspx to the WSUS Server via the remote API. Assuming the indicated services are indeed running on the WSUS server, the problem may be caused by the ISAPI filters used by the WSUS Administration website. Specifically, this error will be encountered if the server is running a 64-bit operating system and 32-bit ISAPI filters are being used by the website. If this is the case, event ID 2274 (source: http://www.dell.com/support/article/mk/en/mkdhs1/SLN286548/en IIS-W3SVC-WP) will appear in the server's Application event log. The description of this error will make it clear that a 32-bit ISAPI filter is to blame: ISAPI Filter 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_filter.dll' could not be loaded due to a configuration problem. The current configuration only supports loading images built for a AMD64 processor architecture. The data field contains the error number. To learn more about this issue, including how to troubleshooting this kind of processor architecture mismatch error, see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735001(v=ws.10).aspx. Follow these steps to resolve this issue: Open IIS Manager on the WSUS server. Browse to the website being used by WSUS. Depending on the WSUS configuration, this will typically be either the Default Web Site or a site named WSUS Administration. Double-click ISAPI Filters. Right-click the entry that corresponds to ASP.Net v4.0 (the specific version number may vary) and select Edit. In the executable path, replace the name of the Framework folder with Framework64 and click OK. Do not change anything else in the file path. Restart the website, then verify that the WSUS Administration console is able to connect to the WSUS server. For more information, refer to this TechNet forum thread. This is at a community college where I work with the admin. The WSUS updates arent being used often and Id been busy and went in to do some management a couple of weeks ago...and the Update Services console on the server cant connect to the cannot connect to WSUS service. Grrr.Google reveals this:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...e-28c2c5c1a7c1and thishttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2009746Makes sense, Id installed some updates and rebooted the box to do a memory upgrade on it a few weeks ago so Im pertty sure thats when the problem appeared. So I followed the solution in the kb article: reinstall sp2, nada.Roll back the possible problem update: nada.IIS seems to work, as i get the generic "site under construction" page when I use IE or firefox to look at the server. When I open the Update Services console it *should* already be connected locally and giving me the usual info, it has nothing, and selecting "connect to server" and using machine name, hostname, localhost and IP all give me "cannot connect to server" issues.an NMAP scan doesnt show anything on 8530, the default wsus port (and I damn sure dont ever recall changing that)Not seeing anything relevant in the event viewer. Not really sure what else to poke around at, anyone have any suggestions? dlp Ars Tribunus Militum Registered: Jun 29, 2005Posts: 2220 Posted: Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:25 am What error message are you seeing when you try to open the console? Do you see the WsusPool Application Pool in IIS? Is it running? Do you see the applications under the web site you installed on (usually the Default Web Site)? xSauronx Seniorius Lurkius Tribus: E
