Getting error 70 when attempting to access a DCOM component on Win2003 from XP DoctorWho asked Oct 11, 2006 | Replies (7) I had thought that I had this issue fixed, but unfortunately I don’t. Here is what we’ve got, and what’s happening. We’ve got several DLLs written in VB6, which resign on some Windows 2003 Servers, and are accessed, through COM+. Now, both Windows 2003 Servers have service pack 1 installed on them. I previously learned that after putting SP1 onto the Windows 2003 Servers that it may be necessary to modify the COM+ security on the server to allow account under which the COM+ applications run on the server to be able to launch on the server. We have two servers, a production server and a test server, and I’ve edited the Launch and Activation Permissions to allow the network account to launch remotely and locally, on both servers, in the same way for the same network ID. Our client machines are all Windows XP Professional machin

Stuck on run time error 70 (Permission Denied) Charis (Programmer) (OP) 28 Jul 00 15:22 I am a VB 6.0 programmer (from Australia) experimenting with DCOM.I http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=20810 have an experimental network set-up with one NT Server 4.0(SP4) which I'll call NT-SERVER and one NT Workstation (SP6) which I'll call NT-WS1. I am experimenting with a test DCOM application written in VB6. The problem is that no matter what I do I can only successfully activate the DCOM server in the NT Server when I log on as Administrator on the client machine. Whenever I use theaccount (USER1), which mind you belongs to the Administrator's group I keep getting Error 70 - Permission denied.I have read just about all KB DCOM security articles I've found with no success.I have changed DCOMCNFG tens of times and experimented with all sorts of combinations including giving permissions to everyone and having authentication level set to none. I have also changed DCOMCNFG in the client's machine. The event viewer on the client machine gives me this message on each first attempt after loggin on:User: MYDOMAIN\USER1Computer: NT-WS1Event ID: 10006Source: DCOMType: ERRORCategory: NoneDCOM got error "General access denied error " from the computer NT-SERVER when attempting to activate the server:{95AC572E.......}I even tried to give the USER1 account every single possible type of access permission with no avail. I log on to the MYDOMAIN domain using the USER1 account which proves the USER1 is a domain account. I turned audit on for logon/logo

This article will walk you through configuring two computers to share a COM component as a distributed component(DCOM). Introduction What makes you feel better when you work as a team, that there are people near you who can give you help whenever you need, and you have to be ready to help them when they need help. I was working with a team, using COM technology in our project, and we have faced the DCOM problem as most of you, and we have solved it gracefully. We decided as a team to document the required steps to configure a smooth DCOM component. Thanks for Naim Tobassi and Rebat Hiary who made these steps available for me, and now I'm posting these steps for all Code Project people.
