I am getting a http://serverfault.com/questions/103593/cannot-configure-nap-dcom-security lot of DCOM 10016 errors, indicating launch security permission problems on a specific CLSID, which ends up being the NAP Agent Service. I've dealt with this before by granting the Network Service local launch and local activation permissions, but the secuirty options are all disabled for this component in the Component Services snap-in. The NAP agent service is not running, and startup is set to Manual. Any ideas on how to remove the errors for the unrequried NAP agent? windows-server-2008 dcom share|improve this question asked Jan 17 '10 at 19:35 mattdwen 228618 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote This is probably because you do not have enough rights. Take the CLSID given in the error message. Search the registry for this id, you'll probably end up somewhere inside the hkey_classes_root. Take the Appid and again initiate a search inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID. Right click the folder and change permissions, take ownership and give your account full control. You will now be able to change the greyed-out items. share|improve this

IN THIS DISCUSSION Join the Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I am not sure if this is a Dell issue or a Microsoft issue so I am going to put this dcom error here. We have all Dell computers here and I have seen this on multiple computers that we have but I don't know how to fix the issue. I had one user that has received a BSOD a couple of times in the past month and another computer that shuts down randomly while the employee is using it. In looking at the error logs of both computers, there are hundreds dcom error nap of error logs that are the same as the one I have attached. This dcom error appears in there error logs about once every fifteen minutes or so. Both of these computers are Windows XP Service Pack 3 and one is a Dell Optiplex GX520 and the other is a Optiplex 755. I found out the CLSID for this error is the Quarantine Private SHA Binding class with an AppID of {B292921D-AF50-400c-9B75-0C57A7F29BA1} . I found the Windows Support Article to fix this for Xp 64 bit but not 32 bit. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899965
When I go into the dcom config on both of these computers to follow the instructions from the Windows article, I cannot find the Quarantine Private SHA binding Class from its friendly name nor can I find it with its AppID either. My question is has anyone run into this issue on XP 32 bit computers? I use clonezilla to image my computers and I have seen this error on a lot of them so I don't if this error is caused by using an image or what. All I know is I cannot give permissions to that Quarantine Private SHA binding class because it is not listed undestopped and Start Type mode is set to Manual. As far as I understand, that service must be started and set to automatic only when we use Network Access Protection. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680600.aspx I dont use Network Access Protection and it is disabled for ConfigMgr site, so the NAP service is set to Manual. Every time when system is restarted (Vista or 2008) the following error appears: Event ID 10016. The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {24FF4FDC-1D9F-4195-8C79-0DA39248FF48} to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. smssha.log
