Dcom Error 1068
PSUs Storage VR ForumWindows XP DCom Server Launcher Hangs On dcom error 1058 Startup AnonymousAug 15, 2005, 4:10 AM Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (More info?)For posterity:I had a dcom error 1053 problem with the DCom Server Launcher hanging on startup afteran XP repair, keeping me from installing SP2 or using Windows Update aswell as various other https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/298095 applications. I also found several posts wherepeople were trying to figure out how to fix. After several hours of digging, I figured out what caused it and how tofix, and decided to post in case someone else has the same problem. It turns out that I used the wrong XP disc to http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/56649-45-dcom-server-launcher-hangs-startup repair from, I hadDigital Media Center Edition (SP2) installed, but repaired with XPCorporate (SP1). It seems that repairing a SP2 installation with a SP1installer can cause this problem, likely because the DCom ServerLauncher wasn't introduced until SP2.All I had to do to fix once I figured out how I screwed it up wasrepair once more with the SP2 installation disc, and all was fine.Hope this helps someone at some point :>)For "googling" purposes, here are some of the errors that I was seeingin my event log (causing severe delays in boot up):--------------------------------------------------------------Syntax error in manifest or policy file"C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies\x86_Policy.6.0.Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_x-ww_5ddad775\6.0.2600.2180.Policy"on line 9. Today however it wont boot into Normal mode (safe mode is fine). I've checked the events log and it looks like a couple of drivers are corrupt. Unfortunately googling on how to fix them comes up with a lot of spam sites trying to get you to download tools to "fix" it.
