ProductsHomearound the homeproductivityHow to Fix a DCOM ErrorHow to Fix a DCOM ErrorBy Ken BurnsideMicrosoft uses the Distributed Component Object Model as a method to allow client-side (or local) applications to transmit and request data on a server. It is an integrated part of Windows, and is used by most Windows applications that dcom error 1068 connect to a network, including the Internet. It's used to perform silent dcom error 1058 authentications (sending login credentials with cached information) and to get live data updates for things like stock tickers and

push notifications on applications. A large number of DCOM errors are the result of out-of-date login credentials, which return a "connection timed out" error message -- or, if no error message shows https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/298095 up, a browser or other networked application giving an "unable to load content" message.Step 1Log in to your computer with an administrator-level account.Step 2Open the Start screen, click the "Apps" icon and then enter "Component Services" into the search box. Press "Enter." Windows will start the Component Services Snap-In application, which is part of the Microsoft Management Console framework. The application will have a https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-fix-a-dcom-error pane of options on the left-hand side.Step 3Double-click "Component Services," then navigate to "Computers," then "My Computer," then "DCOM Config" and finally "Microsoft Windows Remote Shell Host." Right-click "Microsoft Windows Remote Shell Host" and select "Properties" from the context-menu. A window will appear.Step 4Click the check box next to "Enable Distributed COM on this computer." Turn them off, click "OK" and turn them back on again, clicking "OK" a second time.Step 5Check to see if this has resolved your issue. If it hasn't, there is a chance that the DCOM problem will resolve itself with a full system reboot after this procedure.Tips & WarningsBecause DCOM works over a network connection, the problem with DCOM may be with the implementation of the components on the other end of the connection. If the above procedure does not resolve your problem, contact your server administrator for the application that's generating errors.Disabling DCOM and leaving it disabled makes it extremely likely that you'll have problems with network-enabled applications.References & ResourcesMicrosoft Technet: Enable or Disable DCOMRelatedTechwalla's 2015 Holiday Buyers GuideProductivityThe 22 Coolest Gadgets We Saw at CES 2016ProductivityHow to Fix a Not Valid Win
Application Development Programming DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) Definition DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/DCOM-Distributed-Component-Object-Model Facebook Like Tweet Google +1 LinkedIn Email Comment RSS Print A AA AAA Part of the Programming glossary: DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) is a set of Microsoft concepts and program interfaces in which client program object s can request services from server program objects on other computers in a network. DCOM is based on the Component Object Model (COM), which provides a set dcom error of interfaces allowing clients and servers to communicate within the same computer (that is running Windows 95 or a later version). For example, you can create a page for a Web site that contains a script or program that can be processed (before being sent to a requesting user) not on the Web site server but on another, more specialized server in the dcom error windows network. Using DCOM interfaces, the Web server site program (now acting as a client object ) can forward a Remote Procedure Call ( RPC ) to the specialized server object, which provides the necessary processing and returns the result to the Web server site. It passes the result on to the Web page viewer. DCOM can also work on a network within an enterprise or on other networks besides the public Internet. It uses TCP/IP and Hypertext Transfer Protocol . DCOM comes as part of the Windows operating systems. DCOM is or soon will be available on all major UNIX platforms and on IBM's large server products. DCOM replaces OLE Remote Automation. DCOM is generally equivalent to the Common Object Request Broker Architecture ( CORBA ) in terms of providing a set of distributed services. DCOM is Microsoft's approach to a network-wide environment for program and data objects. CORBA is sponsored by the rest of the information technology industry under the auspices of the Object Management Group ( OMG ).
