We have the IIS website created http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5615296/cannot-read-configuration-file-due-to-insufficient-permissions on Web1 with a UNC path to Web2. The web.config file is in the web root on Web2. The UNC path is currently connecting through an administrative user that is also located on Web2. The application pool is running as ApplicationPoolIdentity. The sites load fine when browsing directly to the URL but if I try to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/54c65af3-be2f-4183-8a5a-dff8b6ebc8f7/cannot-wirte-configuration-file-due-to-insufficient-permissions?forum=winservergen change the order of the Default Documents (i.e. moving index.html to the top of the list), I get the following error: There was an error while performing this operation. Details: Filename: \\?\UNC\XXXX\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config Error: Cannot write configuration file due to insufficient permissions. We are not using a domain, only a workgroup. I've also tried this directly on the machine (as opposed to via Remote Desktop) and I get the same result. Please help!!!
