I've just received HL2 for X-mas today. I've tried to install it twice so far. Every time I get to CD #4, I get an error message, and the entire installation process is cancelled. Here's what's keeping me from enjoying my game: "Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed because the file can't be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package." Okay, the CD's are all clean as a whistle. My CD-ROM drive is perfectly fine, too. I looked for the hl24 file on CD #4 and found a zip file of the same name; inside I found that it contained stuff for CounterStrike. When I was doing the installation setup, I told it that I didn't want CS installed (I'm a tad tight for hard disk space). As far as I know, that shouldn't be the cause of my problems... Any suggestions/threads that I could be directed to? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all, and happy merry Christma-Hannu-Kwanza! 26-12-2004,08:02 AM #2 Jen View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Moderator Join Date Dec 2004 Location Auckland Posts 8,055 Re: Installation Issue: file 'hl2.ico1' can't be installed... I downloaded Steam (ridiculous) and created an account and began installing the game. However, the 4th disc will stop and say that it has found "Error 1334:the file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed because the file cannotbe found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. this could http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/914642-half-life-2/42512189 indicate a network error,an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."Now my disc drive works fine on every other game and Half Life 2 installs with no problems on my friend's computer, but I have tried to install it 5 times and it never lets me do it. I have the 5 discs needed to install it WITH the CD-Key on one of the cases. Its the actual game that he went out and bought, box and all. I did not download it.User Info: CybhoundCybhound 9 years ago#4I meant the cd-keys are tied to a steam account. without the account you can't play.God created the Earth, the Dutch only made it better.http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/5986/schwartzuu6.jpg User Info: undersimonundersimon 9 years ago#5No, that's not true. You also have to install Counter Strike: Source, otherwise it won't work. Had the same problem myself.User Inf
