I've just received HL2 for X-mas today. I've tried to install it twice so far. Every time I get to CD #4, I get an error message, and the entire installation process is cancelled. Here's what's keeping me from enjoying my game: "Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed because the file can't be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package." Okay, the CD's are all clean as a whistle. My CD-ROM drive is perfectly fine, too. I looked for the hl24 file on CD #4 and found a zip file of the same name; inside I found that it contained stuff for CounterStrike. When I was doing the installation setup, I told it that I didn't want CS installed (I'm a tad tight for hard disk space). As far as I know, that shouldn't be the cause of my problems... Any suggestions/threads that I could be directed to? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all, and happy merry Christma-Hannu-Kwanza! 26-12-2004,08:02 AM #2 Jen View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Moderator Join Date Dec 2004 Location Auckland Posts 8,055 Re: Installation Issue: file 'hl2.ico1' can't be installed... Discussion in 'General Gaming' started by bighandman, Apr 17, 2007. bighandman Guest I've owned HL2 for a while and have had it installed on my laptop for well over a year. It worked flawlessly on the laptop, on which I run XP Professional. I just got a new desktop with Vista... and I cannot even get it to install, let alone play! About halfway through loading CD 4, I http://www.valvetime.net/threads/hl2-cant-even-install.123091/ get the following error message: Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package. Anyone have any input to offer on this? I've been psyched to play on the desktop and now I'm just annoyed and bitter. Thanks. #1 bighandman, Apr 17, 2007 MorganFreeman911 Tank Joined: Jan 27, 2006 Messages: 3,734 Likes Received: 2 Use STEAM. #2 MorganFreeman911, Apr 17, 2007 giant384 Tank Joined: Nov 8, 2004 Messages: 8,169 Likes Received: 4 yes i would recommend using steam if the cds do not work. you will be able to download hl2 through steam since your cd key is tied to your steam account. #3 giant384, Apr 17, 2007 Przemek Spy Joined: Aug 22, 2003 Messages: 658 Likes Received: 0 It is a well known bug in the installer. Un-checking CounterStrike: Source within Setup causes it - you have to install it with HL2 to make the error go away. #4 Przemek, Apr 17, 2007 (You must log in or sign up to post here.) I was yet to re-install HL2 onto my http://www.motherboards.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=75963 newly built monster rig of a PC and since I still have the original disc thought this would be quicker than downloading it, even though it'll get patched to death afterwards, but it seems attempting to install from the disc no longer error 1334 works. I get this error message: Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package. CD-ROM?! HL2 is on a DVD. The message appears while the installer is copying hl2.ico from the disc. The icon file for the desktop shortcut of all things. I'm now having to download the game instead, so I may as well throw error 1334 the the disc away? soopytwist View Public Profile Search User Find More Posts by soopytwist Find Threads by soopytwist 05-11-2013, 07:18 AM #2 pizzahut Join Date: Jan 2003 Reputation: 2019 Posts: 5,226 Did you try Google? I couldn't find a thread on here for it so I assumed I was the first to have the error. Seems you have to install Counter Strike Source as well, otherwise the installer fails. soopytwist View Public Profile Search User Find More Posts by soopytwist Find Threads by soopytwist Steam Users' Forums > Steam Game Discussions > H - L > Half-Life 2 Can't install from original disc anymore « Previous Thread | Next Thread » Thread Tools Show Printable Version Display Modes Linear Mode Switch to Hybrid Mode Switch to Threaded Mode Posting Rules You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts BB code is On Smilies are On [IMG] code is Off HTML code is Off Forum Rules All times are GMT -7.
