When doing a Cdrive/Mydocuments backup to CD or DVD using the inbuilt writer the backup error hardware error proceeded to the stage of writing the first DVD and then reported " Failed backup - hardware error 29188". I then aborted and attempted another backup to CDrive / Backups which worked O.K. I then attempted transferring the backup on the Cdrive to CD or DVD using the AISBACKUP menu command which did complete but reported failure in backup. I recently had a virus that causes the screen to go black after the "Dell" screen at startup. This means that i can't even get to my desktop or anything really. I want to know if theres any way i can hook up an external hard drive or something like that where it will automatically take my files and put them on it so i can do a factory restore and then load them back on. If anyone has any reccomendations i greatly appreciate it. dimensione510 View Public Profile Find all posts by dimensione510 #2 July 21st, 2010, 01:53 AM w1che Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2000 O/S: Windows 7 64-bit Location: St Louis, MO Posts: 4,683 Is you puter a laptop or desktop? w1che View Public Profile Find all posts by w1che #3 July 21st, 2010, 08:23 AM oneit New Member Join Date: Jul 2010 O/S: Windows 7 64-bit Location: Auckland NZ Posts: 12 Hi Dimension I would suggest downloading a linux live boot disk such as RIPLinux from here http://rip.7bf.de/current/ or any other one. Obviously you'll need access to another computer to download this ISO and then burn to a cd using something like Free ISO Burner. Then simply boot your pc from the Linux disk and connect a USB Harddrive to the PC. You should be able to use linux to access the old drive and copy any files you want to the new one. If you need help with linux then let me know. oneit View Public Profile Visit oneit's homepage!
