John Respond to this 0 HI try this its from the lexmark web siteHardware Error 0502 on LCD Display ID:ENUS16536Check the encoder strip on the printer. (This is a clear strip running the length of the printer, above or behind the cartridge carrier.) Do the following:1. Switch off the printer using the power button. 2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the Lexmark X5100 / X6100 Series. 3. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds. 4. Slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer by taking the top part of the belt and moving it gently to the right. 5. Take out both cartridges. 6. Place an index finger on the encoder http://support.lexmark.com/index?productCode=LEXMARK_X5150&segment=SUPPORT&page=content&id=HO2707 strip on either side of the cartridge carrier. 7. On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Slightly push the encoder strip down and then back up to get it into the slot. 8. Lightly press the strip first to the rear and then forward, if necessary. 9. Clean the encoder strip with a dry tissue. Also clean the contacts of the printer. 10. Reconnect the power cable and switch the printer on again. 11. Perform the http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/34491 hardware test without cartridges first and then with both cartridges.* 12. Make a standalone copy. 13. If the copy is satisfactory, repeat the test once to confirm that the error is gone. How to Perform the Hardware Test on the Lexmark X5150 ID:ENUS3744Using the operator panel on the printer: 1. Press the Option button 10 times until Cartridges appears on the LED display. 2. Press the + button 4 times until Self test appears on the LED Display. 3. Press Select. The printer should print a sheet of paper with one black bar and one grey bar. 4. If the printer fails to print, remove both cartridges and try the test again. (It will feed the paper through and print a blank page.) 5. If the test works with no cartridges in the printer, run it again with one cartridge at a time installed. by [emailprotected] on Dec 20, 2005 at 2:08am Add comment Please sign in to comment Thank you so much for these instructions. RPI Solutions is online now I have a Lexmark All-In-One X6170 printer that has an error Resolved Question: I have a Lexmark All-In-One X6170 printer that has an error "0502". I have talked to support (overseas) and they were unable to help. Went thru the routine of unplugging the unit several times to try to get it clear (they even had me turn it upside down and shake it) but to no avail. The unit does not have a paper jam. The cartridge holder is stuck a little right of center and will not move/slide. I do not know where the encoder strip is on this model to make sure it is seated properly. When I try to test print a page a message says there is a print job in progress but when I open the printing queue there are no jobs pending. I even uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled it. Has this thing given up the ghost or is it still possible to get it up and running? Submitted: 7 years ago. Category:Computer Share this conversation Expert: RPI Solutions replied7 years ago. While this blog was interesting, and I had tried to clean the unit previously, I went back and cleaned it again and then a second time lubricating the rail. The cartridge holder is still frozen and will not move. The hardware error is still there each time I power up. Any other instructions/advice? Expert: RPI Solutions replied7 years ago. Lift the lid of the unit, just below the scanner portion of the All-In-One, to expose the inside of the unit where the printer cartridges are located. 3. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer. 4. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right. 5. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up to get it
