Confusingly, you can also get "hardware error" from a configuration error. Let's say you have an IP mask of 255.255.255.0 (i.e. the default). You have two PCs, with IP addresses 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. If you ping one from the other you get "hardware error". Change the mask to 255.255.0.0 and it works perfectly. 10:52 AM Siju George said... Hi Alan,If your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, it belongs to Class c address. In class C address, it cannot communicate between 192.16

Everything works fine but after I wake the laptop from sleep mode I try to ping and I keep getting a hardware error. After I restart the laptop everything works fine again until it goes into sleep mode again. I've http://www.corenetworkz.com/2009/05/ping-gives-hardware-error.html tried looking for other similar problems on google but haven't found anything yet. Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into the same problems or had any suggestions as this is getting very annoying. Thanks! Quote Login/register to remove this advertisement. The Server PC has two Siemens network cards CP1613 for redundancy to communicate with PLC. The configuration is working as expected in the plant bus side. I have one client PC (WinXP SP2) for the server. In the terminal bus (PC network) side Im using the onboard Ethernet port to connect to the client PC and Server PC. Both Server & Client are Dell Optiplex 755 desktop PC. When Im pinging the client PC IP address from Server PC it is showing "Hardware Error". From the client PC I can able to ping the Server PC IP. Some times it is reverse also. I have uninstalled & reinstalled the driver of the onboard Intel 82566DM network card. After that I can able to ping from either side. But it is not consistent. After reboot again Im getting the Hardware error during pinging. I wanted to know whether the CP1613 is conflicting with the LAN card? Any settings to be done for the LAN card? In the device manager I could see both CP1613 & Intel card are under Network adapter category. Regards, Kanag Reply With Quote 02-23-09,10:12 AM #2 mccoffee View Profile View Forum Posts View B
same kind of IP adresses 10.2.XXX.XXX. They have all the same subnet mask, the same gateway. They are all connected to the same switch. They can all ping themselves. They have all the same property ''Link speed and duplex''=auto-detect. All the machines can ping machines with IP adresses 10.1.XXX.XXX except 1 computer. And this is my problem. When this computer (@IP=10.2.XXX.XXX) try to ping machines with 10.1.XXX.XXX IP adresses, the following output appears: hardware error hardware error hardware error hardware error The computer who can not ping has the following operating system: microsoft windows xp professional x64 edition version 2003 sp1 This is a new machine which I installed last week. Can you tell me why this computer cannot ping 10.1.XXX.XXX adresses? Is there a problem with filters in the firewall of windows? I'd start by checking for LSP / Winsock corruption. Be very persistent here.
