This discussion is locked Rich Gaspers_Jr. Level 2 (205 points) Q: Sense Key/Sense Code Error I have rarely used my dvd burner since getting my new iMac a year ago. Now I have many things which I have been using Toast Titanium to burn and I have successfully burned about 10 dvd's - except for the last 2. I get a message stating " The Drive Reported an Error - Sense Key = HARDWARE ERROR , Sense Code = 0x03, 0x01" and "Lead-In or Lead-Out failed to be written". Does anyone else have experience with this problem? It's not very heartening over here since I had to take my last iMac in when the superdrive failed to work and have it replaced with even less usage than this one has. Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.Rich iMac 20" 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5, 1.5 GB SDRAM....., Mac OS X (10.4), Super-Drive Posted on Mar 23, 2007 2:54 PM I have this question too Close Q: Sense Key/Sense Code Error All replies Helpful answers by DaddyPaycheck, DaddyPaycheck Mar 23, 2007 4:07 PM in response to Rich Gaspers_Jr. Level 6 (16,037 points) Mar 23, 2007 4:07 PM in response to Rich Gaspers_Jr. Rich Gaspers_Jr.-The obvious question is have you tried a different brand of DVD media?Does it burn CD's?Luck--DaddyPaycheck Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Rich Gaspers_Jr., Rich Gaspers_Jr. Mar 23, 2007 9:34 PM in response to DaddyPaycheck Level 2 (205 points) Mar 23, 2007 9:34 PM in response to DaddyPaycheck Well, yes I have. I originally had bought a brand (a year ago) that the Mac didn't like at all. These last 10 that had burned and worked well were another brand. These are the same brand that are now not burning. Why would the obvious question be about the discs, when it was reported as a hardware problem? Either way, any advice would be valued and appreciated.Rich Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Rod Hagen, Rod Hagen Mar 23, 2007 10:42 PM in response to Rich Gaspers_Jr. Level 7 (31,985 points) Mar 23, 2007 10:42 PM in response to Rich Gaspers_Jr. For what its worth, Rick, I've seen errors just like this one fixed with different media. Thank you Asim After 9 months of purchasing my MacBook Pro I was faced with Error while burning my CDs. Toast reported sense key = MEDIUM ERROR and eject CD. I google the error and was surprised to see so many users are having this error. Some were blaming to cheap CDs while others recommended to repair permissions or re-install OS. I continue to face error on some cds while some burn fine. I concluded that it may be defective cds but when I used same cd on my external writer they burn fine. On 12 months https://discussions.apple.com/thread/901354?start=0&tstart=0 my burner finally gave up and now it was not burning any type of CD/DVD. I went to shop purchased Philips CD Cleaner which had two brushed on it. Inserted it into my dvd drive. Instructions played to choose track no. 14 for cleaning. I did as instructed and WOW my dvd burner was functional. I have burnt quite a few CD with no problem at all. Like this:Like Loading... It's an Intel Dual core 10.4.11 build. I've heard a lot of bs about this being an issue with the type of discs, or the processing speed being too slow. I have Verbatim top quality medium, along with the 2.4 Ghz processors, so it's def. not that. I'm going to try using a disc cleaner, your post was really helpful, thanks. Reply 2. Lincoln K. - June 3, 2008 Yes I agree , Many thanks for this obvious tip! Ive had my Mpro for 8 months and its obvious to me now that Your right the Laser just needs a Clean, and then will work fine🙂 I will Post this around the net cheers, Many people are stumped by this error! Why Da hell dont software just say, "CLEAN HEADS PLZ" Reply 3. Gijs van de Nieuwegiessen - July 1, 2008 Experiencing the exact same problem when burning DL DVD's. I wasn't able to burn Memorex, or whatever the brand is called. I've read lots of posts advising to use Verbatim instead. It solved my problem back then, Right now (2 months after burning my last DL) I'm experiencing the same errors. No problems when burning CD's or DVD's, but Verbatim DL DVD's won't burn anymore. My last hope is cleaning the

Is it a LaCie writer with the lightscribe functionality? Does it happen just before the disc writes? Sep 10th, 2006, 05:43 PM #3 djstp Full Citizen Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: London ont canada eh? Maybe it's a loose cable? The error I thought it might have been is a media error that happens with certain disks prior to burning. Who knows? Maybe the cable wasn't properly connected? The best thing you could do is go to the Apple forums and post a query or call Apple Support to be sure. I could be wrong... it may be something completely different.
