Confusingly, you can also get "hardware error" from a configuration error. Let's say you have an IP mask of 255.255.255.0 (i.e. the default). You have two PCs, with IP addresses 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. If you ping one from the other you get "hardware error". Change the mask to 255.255.0.0 and it works perfectly. 10:52 AM Siju George said... Hi Alan,If your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, it belongs to Class c address. I just don't know how this happened or why it's occurring.. but when I unplug my ethernet cable to test the wireless link and then ping the router using command prompt, I just get this: Seconds after plugging the ethernet back in and repeating the same exact command, everything works fine! I get a reply and all. The strange thing about all this is here... All of these are for the wireless connection. Windows is telling me everything is fine, essentially! But why on earh does my wireless connection not work? I just don't get it.I've changed the channel on which the router broadcasts the wireless signal to "2". Do wireless NICs automatically switch to the correct channel when they find a connection? This shouldn't even matter though, because as you can see, I HAVE a standing connection.EDIT:Rewrote the entire post. · actions · 2006-Mar-23 1:18 pm · cacrollEventually, Prozac becomes normalPremium

Everything works fine but after I wake the laptop from sleep mode I try to ping and I keep getting a hardware error. After I restart the laptop everything works fine again until it goes into sleep mode again. I've tried looking for other similar problems on google but haven't found anything yet. Just wanted to see if anyone else has run into the same hardware error problems or had any suggestions as this is getting very annoying. Thanks! Quote Login/register to remove this advertisement. Make sure the version of the BIOS is up-to-date, the firmware for hardware error when the router, drivers, etc are all in the most current version. It may be that the NIC isn't reactivating after going to sleep. If it's a Dell I would almost guarantee it. You can always try to recreate the hardware profile and toy with your power options. edit: meh, just saw its a wireless card...prolly not this issue then Quote thomAZ Member Join Date Jun 2009 Location Denver, CO Posts 50 Certifications Net+,Sec+ 12-22-20090
