WinXP Want to Advertise Here? Solved Access 95 Runtime - Out of Memory error on WinXP Posted on 2005-04-01 MS Access 2 Verified Solutions 27 Comments 5,497 Views Last Modified: 2008-01-09 Hi, I have been microsoft access out of memory running an Access 95 database using the Access 95 Runtime Distributable for many years now, in various locations and various systems, and am currently attempting to get it working on a networked version of Windows XP Professional (SP2). The problem is that whenever I run my shortcut to load the database I get an 'Out of Memory' error (that's all the dialog box says). I have tried just loading msaccess.exe, access 97 out of memory and I get the expected response ('can't find database: specify a database in the command line'), and have also tried using a simple database from The Access Web with the same Out of Memory result. Interestingly, if I supply the name of a file that doesn't exist, I also get the same error, which implies that it is not a problem with the mdb file. I have installed the runtime executable from the same install file onto other machines using Win2K which has been fine, however I initially had problems with NTFS directory permissions. The WinXP system uses Fat32 though, and I can write to the directories in question, so I don't think this is part of the problem. I have tried using Win98 compatability mode but this hasn't helped. I know that I should be able to get it to work on WinXP, as I have a similar DB running on another WinXP machine (can't remember which version) using the runtime distributables. I am on-site with a client so a speedy response would be much appreciated, hence 500 points. :) 0 Question by:FartingUncle Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 83 Active today Best Solution byScott McDaniel (Microsoft Access MVP - EE MVE ) Is the other XP machine p

too much memory for Access 95. If you have Virtual PC you can create a virtual machine with an earlier OS than XP on it or even another XP machine but with less https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21372734/Access-95-Runtime-Out-of-Memory-error-on-WinXP.html than 1G of memory in either case for Access 95. You can put an earlier version of Office Pro or just Access on that virtual machine. Virtual PC is supposed to be included free with the final release of Vista. I'm not running Vista so don't know if that's happened yet. If you have an earlier version of Access available, fire it up. If its Access 95 you http://www.office-forums.com/threads/access-95-out-of-memory-with-windows-xp.353900/ can run from there. If it's later, you can convert the '95 mdbs to the later version. This is a bug in the version of Jet. In A97 it was fixed by one of the Jet 3.5 SPs. I have just upgraded from Win98SE running with 192MB RAM to XP Pro with 2GB RAM. When I try to run Access it comes up with the message 'Out of Memory'. Clearly this harks back to the old Extended DOS memory, current at the time. I have tried to run EMM386 before running Access but it doesn't work (I think EMM386 fails, but it doesn't give any error messages). Can anybody tell me what I need to do to allow this to run under the newer memory systems? I have of course ticked Win95 Compatibility. On XP home some forms would not open unless Control Alt Delete was pressed and then they would open after maybe 10 or 15 seconds. Once opened they could be then closed and opened as normal. On XP Pro the Control Alt Delete would do the trick. Enter A2003. There may have been other issues but I did not go any further due to the form issue. Using Win95 Compatibility caused a lot of other problems but I can't remember if it solved the form problem. When I first installed Access95 to my new PC, when I clicked on MSAccess.exe I got the normal opening panel with the Access logo, version number and licensed to - my name. Above that is a small panel with the 'Out of Memory' error message.
