Then let us know what environment you are running in.Then check that your JAVA_OPTS actually has been picked up, you can do this by looking in the Administration Console, System Information and then System Properties. Check for eaxmple heap size. Here is some mor info on JVM tuning and PermGen: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/JVM_TuningPeter Löfgren Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions Re: java.lang.

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space error in Alfresco 3.4.x versions? It's quite common to run In memory problems when running some big Java EE application http://deepak-keswani.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-fix-tomcat-javalangoutofmemoryer.html on a Tomcat server. I have recently installed Alfresco 3.4.x and http://tech.barwick.de/java/alfresco-outofmemoryerror-permgen-space.html I was facing the following java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space error . java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:620) at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:124) It's usually happens when the Tomcat start and stop few times. You can fine tune it with some minor changes in the Tomcat configuration setting. By out of default, Tomcat assigned very little memory for the running process, you should increase the memory by make change in catalina.sh or catalina.bat file. How to fix it?Stop the Tomcat Server. Find where is Cataline.bat located. We need to make some changes in "catalina.bat" file. Catalina.bat file is located at \tomcat\bin\catalina.bat Assign following line to JAVA_OPTS variable and add out of memory it into catalina.bat file. set JAVA_OPTS=-server -Xms512M -Xmx768M -XX:MaxPermSize=256m Partial Example of catalina.bat file ….

The error logs then contain messages like this: 09:25:01,313 ERROR [org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/alfresco].[jsp]] Servlet.service() for servlet jsp threw exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space Solution: explicitly specify an amount of memory which can be used with e.g. -XX:PermSize=128m as a server option. Under Linux etc. this can be added to the JAVA_OPTS setting in the alfresco.sh script, if this is being used to control the application server. Posted at 8:57 PM |Comments (2) Comments I tried setting the PermSize to 128 as suggensted for Alfresco 3.1 Enterprise and it failed. 128 was too small. I ended up using MaxPermSize and setting it to 512m example: -XX:MaxPermSize=512m No more out of memory errors after that. Posted by: Phill|2009-08-12 15:40 Thanks for the note. The original post was for Alfresco 2.1, so presumably the appropriate values have changed a bit since then. Posted by: iBarwick|2009-08-15 00:10
