I just get this message: "Setup was unable to open information file wmpocm.inf. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x2 at line 0." How do I fix this? I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, Ver. 2002, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-performance/unable-to-addremove-windows-components/f21f2da6-f64d-459d-a300-66d05857a50e Service Pack 3 Thank you for any help you might be able to offer! billydolly, Jul 30, 2010 #1 Sponsor daz1 Banned Joined: Nov 4, 2006 Messages: 2,664 http://ureader.com/msg/12862564.aspx please follow info on there as hideously complicated to type out daz1, Jul 30, 2010 #2 DerekC Joined: Jan 10, 2005 Messages: 1,705 Otherwise you can use revo uninstaller in place of add/remove programs. https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-cannot-use-add-remove-programs.939414/ DerekC, Jul 30, 2010 #3 daz1 Banned Joined: Nov 4, 2006 Messages: 2,664 yes as per DerekC but a temp patch over things usually best to solve original issue if possible as may lead to other issues daz1, Jul 30, 2010 #4 billydolly Thread Starter Joined: Jul 30, 2010 Messages: 5 Thank you for your willingness to help! I started with the page link you gave me and I did this: Click Start, Run and type: %windir%\inf\sysoc.inf I got this: "Windows cannot fin '%windir%\inf\sysoc.inf'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search." Today I could open the Add/Remove Programs, but it would still not let me use the 'Add/Remove Windows Components' or the 'Set Program Access and Defaults'. I'm thinking now that maybe that was what happened yesterday and maybe the title of this thread should be corrected? Sorry! billydolly, Jul 30, 2010 #5 valis Moderator Joined: Sep 24, 2004 Messages: 70,810 what error are you getting when you try to use the add/remove windows components? Is this a work pc? valis, Jul 31, 201

But upon rebooting, after I open the Control Panel, and as soon as I hit the button called "Add/Remove Windows Component", I get the following error message: ------------------------------ Setup was unable to open information file netoc.inf Please contact your administrator. This specific error code is 0x2 at line 2088999592 --------------------------------- I've tried google, and all the suggestions don't work. When they give me the "CMD" commands, there is always something wrong with the syntax that is not understood by windows. If you know how to replace this netoc.inf file with a new one, or repair it, or whatever, please outline in very nice detailed instructions. It would be much appreciated. Thank you. This should work: 1. Insert your WinXP CD 2. Go to Start > Run. Type in: Expand D:\i386\NETOC.IN_ -r C:\Windows\Inf, hit OK Where D:\ is your CD drive, and C:\Windows\ is the drive & directory where you have your OS installed.
