If your compiler can't find that it is messed up. That really makes this more of a sysadmin (Serverfault.com) question than a programming (SO) question. –T.E.D. Jan 4 '11 at 14:15 5 @T.E.D.: No, CL.exe is the compiler in Visual Studio, the linker is named LINK.exe. –Charles Bailey Jan 4 '11 at 14:52 W

Fatal Error C1083: Cannot Open Include File: 'string': No Such File Or Directory
error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'iostream': No such file or directory up vote 4 down vote favorite 1 I've reinstalled Visual Studio 2010 Professional several times to try to get it to work. I had to uninstall Visual Studio 2012 Professional http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4594292/vs-2010-error-cannot-open-file-iostream because it wasn't compiling something we did in class. I completely uninstalled everything including SQL Server.. I went to VC/include and the iostream header file is not there. #include int main () { cout << "hello"; system ("PAUSE"); return 0; } This is all I'm trying to do because nothing else is working. It's really driving me crazy because I need to get it working so that I can do my project!!! Every time I do; new project => empty project => add an http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15181537/fatal-error-c1083-cannot-open-include-file-iostream-no-such-file-or-directo item to source =>.cpp I'm running windows 8. It just says Error cannot open source file Also, error cout identifier is undefined.... I'm wondering if I should do a system restore? Or if I should just completely reinstall windows 8 from my recovery media? c++ windows visual-studio-2010 include iostream share|improve this question edited Mar 6 '13 at 5:58 Mysticial 282k35240264 asked Mar 3 '13 at 1:41 syuja 35115 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote One problem is that you did not include the namespace std. This is what your code should look like: #include using namespace std; int main (void) { cout << "hello" << endl; system("pause"); return 0; } or you could have done something like this: std::cout << "Hello" << std::endl; This may be a problem because you did not set your environment to C++. This is how you do it: Go to Tools > Import and Export settings. If you cannot find it, just search for it in Quick Search Then go to reset all settings. Then simply select "Visual C++" Restart. That should do the trick. If it does not, you might consider re-installing Visual C++ itself. For VS 2012. If that does not work, then re-install the program. share|improve this answer edited Mar 6 '13 at 6:22 answered Mar 6 '13 at 5:59 Games Brainiac 26.8k1672123 3 In visual studio 2012 this doesn't solve the problem –Hrvoje Golcic Mar 30 '14 at 17:43 This doesn't

I've tried reinstalling 2-3 times, but that didn't work. Any solutions? I really want to continue my book! What kind of project? What is exactly the code? What is the exact error message? Did you do: #include (So no .h and itz must be < > instead of double quotes!)? With kind regards, Konrad Sunday, February 10, 2013 3:49 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote #include using namespacestd; int main() { cannot open source cout << "Hello world!"; return0; } That is my EXACT coding in a Console Application. and the error messages are: "error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'iostream': No such file or directory" "IntelliSense: cannot open source file "iostream" "IntelliSense: name must be a namespace name" "IntelliSense: identifier "cout" is undefined" Those are all the errors. This started when I tried to uninstall C#, and Visual Basic. Besides, please check that "iostream" header file exists in "Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\include". Then, go to Properties->Configuration Properties->VC++ Directories->Include Directories, check that "$(VCInstallDir)include;" is on top of the list.
