I have a solution consisting of a project which compiles to a static library, and another project which is really simple but depends on this library. Sometimes, in the last days extremely frequent, after Rebuilding the Solution or just compiling it with 1-3 changed error lnk1104 cannot open file source files, I get the following error: 2>LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'thelibrary.lib' ========== Rebuild All: 1 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 skipped ========== Where compiling thelibrary.lib was a success without any errors or warnings. I have tried cleaning the solution, but that doesn't always work. What is wrong here? c++ visual-studio compiler-construction share|improve this question edited Sep 29 '13 at 10:52 BartoszKP 22.4k84167 asked Jun 23 '11 at 8:33 Komn 268134 6 I have exactly the same issue. Solution with 3 native c++ projects. 1 exe and 2 static libs. Always getting mentioned error on Rebuild. After that I just do Build and it goes ok. Look like a bug. –thims Jan 15 '12 at 20:07 add a comment| 13 Answers 13 active oldest votes up vote 27 down vote In Linker, general, additional library directories, add the directory to the .dll or .libs you have included in Linker, Input. It does not work if you put this in VC++ Directories, Library Directories. share|improve this answer answered Jun 25 '12 at 2:19 Chris Thorne 37935 add a comment| up vote 9 down vote I can see only 1 things happening here: You did't set properly depen

It's required (and only available) for VS 2015. If we wanted to do that automatically, we'd have to detect the MS linker version during LDC runtime and add that switch accordingly - I suppose that's not gonna happen soon. ;) p0nce commented Sep 17, 2015 Ok. Worked. p0nce closed this Sep 17, 2015 wilzbach commented Apr 16, 2016 Hmm I ran into the same issue when setting up a appveyor CI for to test mir against ldc. However I can't find the legacy switch in the release package for windows - any ideas how I could teach ldc to avoid that? rainers commented Apr 16, 2016 In more recent versions the library is no longer passed on the command line through the configuration file, but compiled into the library as a "default library". Edit1: It seems like I only get this error on this project. I've made a sample project in 4.10, packaged it, and it all worked. But this project is still unable to be packaged. How can I fix this? Edit2: Converting this project back to 4.9 makes the whole project crash when trying to open it in Unreal Engine.
