open the specified file Escalation RATLC01277873; hyperlinks; hyperlink; gendoc; document; reqpro; reqweb; PROJTEMP Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) In Rational RequisitePro the error "Cannot open the specified file" appears when clicking on a hyperlink. Symptom The full error message is as follows:
"Cannot open the specified file."
Cause The document is not opened from its original location making the relative hyperlink invalid. Resolving the problem When using hyperlinks in RequisitePro documents, hyperlinks should use an absolute path and not a relative path. If a relative path is used, the link will be invalid in RequisitePro with read-only users and in RequisiteWeb. When a read-only user opens a document in RequisitePro, a copy of the document is created in the RequisitePro\PROJTEMP directory. The read-only user will use this local copy of the document for reading. Because the document has changed locations, the relative paths used in the hyperlink will no longer work. The same problem applies to RequisiteWeb. When a document is opened in RequisiteWeb, a copy of the file is copied to the GenDoc directory where it is converted to an HTML file. The document is then opened from this directory making any relative links invalid. The following Microsoft Article describes the problem that occurs when a document moves. Microsoft Article 326518: "Cannot open the specified file" error message when you click a hyperlink in Word http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326518 To use hyperlinks in RequisitePro and RequisiteWeb an absolute path should be used.
