Once you are logged on to that computer as "joe accounting", can you successfully connect to the domain controller that is assigned to %LOGONSERVER% environment variable? Do you see any error messages in the Event Log that would provide some clues?hthMarcin Marked as answer by Joson ZhouModerator Monday, June 01, 2009 8:08 AM Friday, May 29, 2009 5:23 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Anne,

As a backup can you create him as a "local" user too with admin rights, at least he's not dead in the water. 2 Chipotle OP Mike3782 Mar 5, 2012 at 6:24 UTC We make users local administrators on their laptops here as well. 0 Ghost Chili OP da Beast Mar 5, 2012 at 6:27 UTC unplug any (all) network connections - then the OS will use the cached credentials. Chances are he is plugging in a wired network at home, the OS is trying to find your domain via the network connection and can't. 4 Chipotle OP Mike3782 Mar 5, 2012 at 6:33 UTC do you have vpn access setup? 0 Sonora OP PRU9852 Mar 5, 2012 at 7:00 UTC when he is at home, is he just trying to sign into the laptop? or does this error occure after he has connected via VPN? are you using roaming profiles at your office locaion?

I went in through Restore, using Windows start-up and tried /fixboot and later /fixmbr in DOS. Now I can get to the Safe Mode screen in Windows, but the ayatem won't let me in as Administrator or through my Personal Login. It simply say "cant logon to XP because domain not available not available". Is there a way around this More about : logon domain Chicano 16 December 2011 12:16:49 From the Safe Mode Options list, try the Last Known Good Configuration option. This logon option will use the Last Configuration that worked, so it may allow a logon even when the Safe Mode option doesn't. And if that option doesn't work,.. if the case has the COA Product key in the back, your best alternative is is not available to reinstall the System. If the key is not available, you will need another computer to burn a CD with the Hiren's Live Boot CD and from the Live CD recover the Windows XP Product Key with password recovery apps included. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ m 0 l tigsounds 16 December 2011 13:30:26 Plug the hard drive into another computer as a data drive. Start Regedit, 'Import' the problem computers registry using the good computers Regedit and go to: hkey_local_Machine, Software, Microsoft, WindowsNT, Current Version, Winlogon (open this). On the right look at DefaultDomainName and AltDefaultDomainName and make sure that they are exactly the same as the computer name (caps and all). Yes, domain name, even if it's never been part of a domain. Those two entries must absolutely match the computer name. I'm running late for an appointment right now but I wanted to chime in with this. If problem not solved in about 16 hours (when I can next get to my computer) then I'll have a positive way to edit the registry without removing the drive. I guess what I'm saying is.. don't give up and re-load windows, it can be saved. m 0 l Related resources Domain Controller says "No logon servers available"? - Tech Support System cannot log you on now because domain Computername is not available. - Tech Support
