I downloaded it, then converted it in ConvertX (it never said there was any errors, or that it was out of sync or anything like that during the conversion process) then as soon as I was done with that, I burned it in ImgBurn. Could the DVD burner possibly cause that? When I checked the original files, sampling them through WMP, they seemed to be in sync-the audio matching the video. http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/video-editing/5215-best-fix-sync.html Yet after burning them with ConvertXtoDVD (v.4.0.9.322) the resulting discs are out of sync. If the original files were out of sync, and, the program couldn't correct this, that I can understand. But the reverse? Can someone (Baldrick?) help me to understand what is going on here? Thanks. Is the sync error the same amount the length of the playback, or does it gradually get worse as it plays? The first type of error may be a audio offset file that ConvertX didn't read. The second type may be due to an error in the file. Players can skip over errors. VLC can play a badly damaged or corrupted file and you may not notice. But an encoder needs a 100% error free file. But from what you are saying, in both files there must an offset that convertX is able to detect which results in the out of sync discs. ConvertXtoDVD is good (although I prefer version 3 to version 4at the moment), but it doesn't work on every file. You need to have a few options, and also accept that sometimes a file will have a problem that

Thread Tools 13-01-2008 #1 Geeflax New on Forum Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 8 Audio Out of Sync problem after burning DVD Hi I recently bought a new PC and, for the first time have acces to some DVD burning technology. I have downloaded some .AVI files and have attempted to create a DVD to play on my home player. Some of these files have worked fine using Windows DVDmaker. However, with some I get an error message saying that the .AVI file is not valid or is corrupted. In all cases the files have played fine on the PC. Following some admittedly limited research, I found a utility that converts the files to an .mpg format. (It also creates a bunch of other files such as .ifo and .vob) This file will now load into Dvdmaker and the dvd will burn, however that audio is now out of sync when the disc is played. Again the file (not the disc) plays fine on the PC. I guess my question is twofold. 1. Is there any solution to the original file not loading into Dvdmaker? 2. Failing that, is there a workaround to the sync issue. Please bear in mind that I am a novice when it comes to working with video, but any assistance would be gratefully received. Many thanks for you time 13-01-2008 #2 Kerry56 Administrator Join Date: Sep 2003 Location: West Texas Posts: 17,343 Re: Audio Out of Sync problem after burning DVD Audo/Video sync problems are common when converting from avi to mpeg or dvd format. Your conversion program is taking you all the way to dvd format since you are getting ifo, bup and vob files. Sometimes the problems start with the way the audio is encoded in the original avi files. Variable bitrate mp3 audio is a common culprit in these avi files. The solutions are not particularly simple. Some encoders can handle these problems better than others. You didn't mention which conversion program you were using, but there are a few I can recommend that will take you from avi to dvd and allow you to make menus if you like. FAVC, AVI2DVD, and DVDFlick are all free to use. ConvertXtoDVD is a commercial product that many around here like. FAVC is a particularly good free program, since it can use a high quality mpeg en
