java heap space’ and also sometimes ‘An out of memory error has occured’. I somehow managed to increase my heap size upto -Xmx990m. But still its not working. When I try to increase heap size beyond that, I am getting error ‘Unable to create virtual machine’ while starting eclipse. I tried to make other changes in eclipse.ini file. When I change XXMaxPermSize, it gives me ‘permGen memory error’. For few times, I got different other kind of errors like an out of memory error has occurred consult the running eclipse section ‘Unhandled event loop exception GC overhead limit exceeded’ and 2-3 more different types. Please help me what can be done that would be great! eclipse share|improve this question edited Jun 29 '12 at 17:24 Kevin Ennis 8,89912132 asked Jun 29 '12 at 17:10 user1491687 26112 4 Time to buy more RAM... –Jeshurun Jun 29 '12 at 17:11 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 9 down vote Jeshurun's somewhat flippant comment about buying more RAM is actually fairly accurate. Eclipse is a memory HOG! On my machine right now Eclipse is using 2.1GB; no joke. If you want to be able to use Eclipse really effectively, with all the great features, you really need lots of memory. That being said, there are ways to use Eclipse with less memory. The biggest helper I've found is disabling ALL validators (check "Suspend all validators" under Window>Preferences>Validation; just disabling the individual ones doesn't help enough). Another common source of memory-suckage is plugins. If you're going to stay at your current memory limit, I strongly recommend that you: Uninstall your current Eclipse Download the core/standalone/just Java version of Eclipse (the one with least filesize/no plug-ins built-in) Try using just that for awhile, and see how the performance is. If it's ok, try installing the plug-ins you like, one at a time. Never install multiple, and give each one a week or two of tr

As a result, Eclipse quickly runs out of memory and crashes with little warning and few obvious error messages. This bug applies only to jkd1.6.0_21 and later on Windows, but applies equally to Eclipse 3.6 (Helios), Eclipse 3.5 (Ganymade), and Eclipse 3.4 (Europa). To fix this, go to the Eclipse installation folder

Description David Williams 2013-07-24 20:30:26 EDT While the I-build today was a mistake ... just forgetting to out of memory remove last week's "respin" from crontab ... it failed with an "out of memory" error. http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops4/I20130724-1600/ There is a few things that have changed recently, that _might_ be related ... we changed to Tycho 0.18.1 and Maven 3.1.0 ... but ... those were in M-build too, so seems unlikely that alone accounts for it. I've checked the log and our "maven heap" is still set to 2G. We might simply need to increase it?! BUT, an there is an important aspect of where the problem occurred; It occurred while generate JavaDoc. So, 1) wonder if that's changed recently (method or "input" to it)? But 2) more important, that is all done in an "antrun-plugin" and one thing to check is if that antrun "inherits" the same heap setting from Maven (2G) or if it has to be specified separately? Comment 1 David Williams 2013-07-24 21:51:50 EDT So, to clarify some comment above: antrun-plugin appears to have no way to specify extra arguments, such as amount of memory to use (unless it somehow inherits the
