this error arises from the fact that Visual Basic (VB) makes intense use of functions and "sub calls", taking up so much memory that your system simply cannot keep up with the requests your system it making. The "Stack Space" of your system is basically a technical term used excel 2010 out of stack space to describe the memory that your PC will use to run the programs on your system, and runtime error 28 out of stack space excel as your PC will be using too many memory allocations, it's continually causing the likes of the runtime 28 error to show. What Causes Runtime run time error 28 out of stack space excel Error 28? You can experience this error in this form: Runtime Error 28 - Out of stack space When software runs, it requires a lot of the system memory to operate (RAM). case VB, is causing the operating system to continually ask for more memory that is available, the process cannot continue and so a "Stack overflow" occurs. Possible causes of this issue are quite varied. It could be the application you are using is buggy and is attempting to use a lot of memory, which your system may not have. It could well be that a background application could be hogging system resources, causing other applications to be allocated less than what they need. Finally, there is runtime error 28 out of stack space how to fix it a possibility that it could be the operating system that needs updating, as there may be certain bugs in the software that Microsoft remove via the issue of hotfixes. How To Fix The Runtime 28 Error On Your PC Step 1 – Re-Install Any Software Causing The Problem Re-installing software should be your first step when attempting to deal with this problem, as it is the easiest method to carry out. Here is how you should go about it: Take a note of the application causing the "Out of Stack Space" runtime error 28. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs Locate the problem application Highlight this application and click "Remove" Follow the un-install wizard and then once it has finished, restart your PC Install the latest version of the software again on your system This method should remove any buggy installation files that may be hindering the operation of the process. This is not a sure fire way to remove the "Runtime error 28", so if this did not help carry onto step 2. Step 2 – Close Any Other Programs Some programs that run in the background take up more memory than they should, hogging the system resources from other applications and process, which could cause the "Runtime Error 28". To solve this issue: Open Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) Click the "Processes" tab Sort the list of processes by memory End task any processes that are not critical for system continuity This should free up some more memor

The first sheet include a cell which type is 'Text' and it is for DATE value. I add Workbook_Open method for set today date when open the workbook as shown below. Private Sub Workbook_Open() Sheet1.Range("F6") = Date End http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30863165/runtime-error-28-out-of-stack-space-in-excel-vba Sub And I also add Worksheet_Change method for sheet of that cell. That is for validation check as below. Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) If Target.Address = "$F$6" Then 'Getting insertion date. insertionDate = Sheet1.Range("F6") 'If date field is not empty If insertionDate <> "" Then Call MsgBox("Insertion Date must be inserted.") In an Excel out of Workbook with many modules and worksheets, at the bottom of the VBA code for SHEET2, there is this Subroutine: Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Dim TargetCells As Range Set TargetCells = Range("B1000:B1029") If Not Application.Intersect(TargetCells, Range(Target.Address)) Is Nothing Then Call SpecificSubRoutine End If End Sub My understanding of this code is that it watches the entire sheet for ANY changes. If ANYTHING is changed, anywhere on the sheet, it runs the If statement. The If out of stack statement fails in the event that any of the changes made to the sheet take place outside of the specified TargetCells range, but this Sub still tries to validate the If statement EVERY time ANYTHING is changed on the sheet. Now, you might be able to guess that my problem is some stack overflow. (Run-time error '28': Out of Stack Space) Whenever the Worksheet_Change Sub runs, if the changes to the sheet were made inside of the TargetCells range, it calls SpecificSubRoutine which populates cells, which triggers the Worksheet_Change Sub for every time SpecificSubRoutine populates ANY cell. (SpecificSubRoutine also calls different modules, which of course populate cells, which of course trigger the Worksheet_Change Sub) Not so good. Also, most of the subroutines throughout the application are wrapped in Application.ScreenUpdating = False / Application.ScreenUpdating = True, which I mistakenly thought would limit the number of times Worksheet_Change is called to once, immediately after Application.ScreenUpdating = True runs. NOTE OF IMPORTANCE: Neither SpecificSubRoutine nor any of the Subroutines called by it populate cells in the TargetCells range. I'm not quite that dim... Here are my questions: Is there a way to narrow the scope of what triggers the Worksheet_Change Sub, so that only changes in the TargetCells range triggers it? (instead of changes anywhere in the sheet) Is there a way to do what I mistakenly thought that Applicatio

After a while, the call stack builds up and i get a "out of stack" error. Is there a method to clear the stack? Or at least end the sub when I'm not using it? EG. Sub MoveRight() if GetKeyState(vbKeyDown) <0 then MoveDown ... ... sub MoveDown if GetKeyState(vbKeyRight) < 0 then MoveRight ... ... etc vba excel-vba share|improve this question asked Feb 7 '14 at 15:36 user3221162 526 support.microsoft.com/KB/126090 –Siddharth Rout Feb 7 '14 at 16:29 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted "Out of Stack" is a Severe Fatal error. The way to clear it is to restart Excel. Though it is possible that just restarting VBA would be sufficient, I sure wouldn't trust it. The problem here is that you have written a pair of methods with infinite recursion in them. DON'T DO THAT. The simplest general fix to this is to have your routines set static flags to prevent re-entry: Sub MoveRight() Static InUse As Boolean If InUse Then Exit Sub InUse = True if GetKeyState(vbKeyDown) <0 then MoveDown ... ... InUse = False End Sub A more specific fix would require knowledge of what you are actually trying to do, which looks highly suspect at this point. share|improve this answer edited Feb 7 '14 at 15:50 answered Feb 7 '14 at 15:44 RBarryYoung 33.6k753101 Hello I am trying to recreate the game of snake. Therefore I need to be able to repeatidly make OnKey events even during the execution of one sub. This fix does take care of the error however now my little "square" can not move in the direection it moved before. –user3221162 Feb 7 '14 at 15:58 1 Don't write it recursively. Most professional languages do not have tail-recursion optimization and so will run out of stack after several thousand recursions. Rewrite it to be iterative, for which there is no limit in VBA and most other such lagnuages. –RBarryYoung Feb 7 '14 at 16:02 1 + 1 Nicely explained.
