I bought a 17" Avixe S730 TFT monitor (VGA) yesterday and it will not work with my Mac Mini. When I start the Mac Mini with the new monitor the white Apple screen with Apple logo is displayed (the resolution possibly looks too low though??) and then after a while (when it tries to display my desktop I think) it gives an "Out of Range" message on the monitor and the sc

Did you try to play your presentation? Also in the Displays preference did you click Arrange and follow the onscreen instructions? Generally you should see your desktop image (but not your desktop icons) after connecting to the projector. I set my desktop image to the background image I'm using for my presentation. I usually play the first few slides of my presentation to insure everything is working correctly. When I reboot, the monitor shows the apple logo with the progress bar. It then goes blank and the monitor reports an out of range error. If I plug another monitor or the same monitor in to the second DVI port without the other monitor being on, the monitor in question displays the login screen without issue. I'm confused as to what is going on as when I shutdown the monitor is fine. Any thoughts as to what is being triggered when I plug in the cable to the second DVI-D port? display el-capitan share|improve this question edited Nov 4 '15 at 5:44 klanomath 24.8k42865 asked Nov 4 '15 at 3:00 N Klosterman 1082 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted I'd try clearing the SMC & NVRAM first… Power down. Disconnect all but the monitor with the issue, which I'd plug into the port with the issue. Reset SMC on a Mac Pro - Power down. Remove the mains cable from the back for 15 seconds. Plug back in. Wait another 5 seconds, power on. Reset NVRAM [do this as it's first powering up from the SMC reset] At the chimes, hold Cmd ⌘ Opt ⌥ P R until you hear the chimes a second time, then release. See if you can then get through startup & shutdown twice without seeing the issue. If all is well, power down & connect the seco
