FSX is a 32-bit application. Even under the recommended Windows 7 fsx oom windows 10 64-bit operating system, the FSX.exe process always faces the samemathematical limitations that all 32-bit applications do. One of

these is a4GB hard limit on something called “virtual address space” (VAS). WhenFSX crashes with an error message saying that your computer has runout of available memory (commonly called fsx memory leak an “OOM” in the simcommunity), it’s actually talking about VAS, not physical memory like theamount of RAM in your system. Customers who have huge amounts ofRAM like 16GB or 32GB are often baffled by this message for goodreason – they certainly aren’t running out of physical memory. Microsoftprobably should have made the error say “The application has run out fsx steam oom ofvirtual address space.” instead of the vague “memory” term. VAS is effectively a preallocation of everything the simulator canpotentially access during a flight and will fluctuate over the course ofusing the simulator as you fly between different areas. Note that VAS is*NOT* the same thing as the “virtual memory” swapfile that you can setthe size of in the Windows system options – they are two very different things and having a large virtual memory swapfile does not protect youfrom the 4GB VAS limit. The mathematical limit itself comes from thedefinition of “32-bit” – a bit is the most basic data structure in computerscience and it can have two values, a 0 or 1, which can mean all sorts of things like true or false, on or off etc. This is why at the core a computerexecutes “binary” code. The amount of VAS a 32-bit process can accesscan be calculated by raising the number of possible values for each bit (2)to the power of the number of bits available (32). So 2^32equals exactly4,294,967,296 bytes

isback A useful FSX water settinginfo → FSX/P3D OOM (Out Of Memory)helper/fix Posted on 24/09/2012 by Kosta Dear Simmers, As we get more and more plagued by OOMs in http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a108/vas-management-stopping-out-of-memory-oom-errors.aspx FSX due to 4GB constraint, there is a Microsoft fix that apparently helps to prevent an OOM happening in both P3D and FSX. Beware that this is not a FIX to prevent OOMs altogether, it only helps a bit. FSX/P3D will finally crash if you keep on using the sim. Until now there are no adverse effects on using https://kostasfsworld.wordpress.com/2012/09/24/oom-out-of-memory-helperfix/ this "fix". Link to Microsoft fix. Just download and install the "FixIt". It will change the heap limit. The default being: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems SharedSection=1024,20480,768 and the FixIt is going to change the 768 to 1024. Here is a screenshot also showing where this is exactly located: This is only for x64 version of Windows 7. My thanks go to OmniAtlas for posting this! Yes I have followed the link, run the program from Microsoft, restarted my PC, but….. still no SharedSection entry. Yes I have a Win7 HOme Premium 64.bit version. I attached a screenshot showing the highlighted Windows key, in which SharedSection is in.

Just leave a reply to this post. FSX is and will always be a 32 bits application. At the time of writing this post (september 2016) P3D (latest version 3.3) is also a 32 bits application. That means they can only handle 4 Gbytes of your installed RAM. No matter how much RAM you've got on your system. Even if you have 128 GB of RAM a 32 bit application such as FSX or P3D can only make use of up to 4 GB of RAM. Concorde-X is probably the most demanding plane on the market regarding memory use, but I don't think you'll ever have a problem if you fly Concorde-X using default sceneries and reasonable settings. However, you'll very likely get OOM errors (Out of Memory) when using extreme settings and/or other memory demanding addons, such as complex sceneries like Aerosoft Heatrow (specially if combined with London VFR or specially UK2000 sceneries), Aerosoft Mahhattan (specially if combined with FSDream Team KJFK), Paris Charles de Gaulle (LFPG) or FlyTampa Dubai, just to name a few. Because there's no way to increase the amount of memory that FSX/P3D can use, which will always be limited to 4GB, the only solution to avoid OOM errors is to lower the memory demands. As far as I have been able to check, these are the items to take care of when experiencing OOM errors: Number of objects: Scenery objects: Each tree, building, ground assistant and vehicles, post and signs... Every single object needs a space in memory. Reducing autogen or the scenery detail will be of a great help to reduce memory use and has usually solved all my OOM errors. Traffic: Each vehicle is also an object. So using road and airport traffic, boats, etc, will also increase the memory use. It is also important to bear in mind that AI traffic addons, such as My Traffic X, ICE or SKY can introduce a great number of planes (objects) and textures (described next) which will noticeably increase the memory requirements. Airports: FSX/P3D will load a
