How it happened:I was working on a Microsoft Excel file that was located on my external drive which was connected to my main computer, and just as I hit the save button on the Excel file, the computer froze and then rebooted by itself and went into chkdsk. After the chdsk was completed the main computer came back on, but the external drive did not. I could see the external drive in My Computer, but when I opened it to view the files, I saw nothing in the drive. It still showed the correct amount of used space and correct capacity, but I simply couldn't see any files.I ran several Data Recovery programs to try to recover my files including OnTrack Easy Recovery Professional and GetDataBack for FAT with minimal success. However I was able to recover a lot of chk files. Then I ran CHK-Mate but it freezes. Usually it won't get past the JPG part. I get this error:CHK-Mate Run-time error '14': Out of String Spacehttp://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=copyofchkmateerror14oy0.jpgI have seen another error but I can't remember what it said. It might have been error 7. I thought I saved it, but I can't seem to find it now. The MOST important thing for me to recover from that drive is that Excel file that I was working on. If it is one of those chk files, and CHK-Mate doesn't get pass the JPG part, what can I do? Is there a way to have CHK-Mate bypass the other files types and only search for Excel .xls files?Thank you in advance.*** I discovered that my Power Supply was faulty 3 days ago. It's only a couple of weeks old and rated at 450w, but nontheless defective. I realized this because none of my hard drives would boot up when I started the computer. I would get this message at startup " DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. " I replaced the new one with an old 235w power supply that I had lying around and so far I have not seen that problem since. My other internal drive got corruped too and I think that this whole thing happened because of that power supply.
