I am interpolating unknown points between known points for a project I am working on. I began working with small files (< 5,000,000 points) and was able to read/write to a numpy array and python lists with no problem. I have received more http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19960166/what-are-the-workaround-options-for-python-out-of-memory-error data to work with (> 50,000,000 points) and now my code fails with a MemoryError. What are some options for handling such large amounts of data? I do not have to load all data into memory at once, but I will need to look at neighboring points using scipy kd-tree I am using Python 2.7 32 bit on a 64 bit Windows XP OS. Thanks in advance. EDIT: Code is posted below. I took out code for long calculations and variable definitions. from liblas import file import numpy as np f = file.File(las_file, mode='r') num_points = int(f.__len__()) dt = [('x', 'f4'), ('y', 'f4'), ('z', 'f4'), ('i', 'u2'), ('c', 'u1'), ('t', 'datetime64[us]')] xyzict = np.empty(shape=(num_points,), dtype = dt) counter = 0 for p in f: newrow = (p.x, p.y, p.z, p.intensity, p.classification, p.time) xyzict[counter] = newrow counter += 1 dropoutList = [] counter = 0 for i in np.nditer(xyzict): # code to define P1x, P1y, P1z, P1t if counter != 0: # code to calculate n, tDiff, and seconds if n > 1 and n < scanN: # code to find v and vD for d in range(1, int(n-1)): # Code to interpolate x, y, z for points between P0

Translate Resolve "Out of Memory" ErrorsGeneral Suggestions for Reclaiming MemoryThe MATLAB® software is a 64-bit application that runs on 64-bit operating systems. It generates an Out of Memory message whenever it requests a segment of memory from the operating system that is larger than what is available. When you see the Out of Memory message, use any of the techniques discussed under Strategies for Efficient Use of Memory to help optimize the available memory including:Reducing required memorySelecting appropriate data storageUsing contiguous memoryReclaiming used memoryIf the Out of Memory message still appears, you can try any of the following:If possible, reduce the size of your data. For example, break large matrices into several smaller matrices so that less memory is used at any one time.If you have large files and data sets, see Large Files and Big Data.Make sure that there are no external constraints on the memory accessible to MATLAB. On Linux® systems, use the limit command to investigate.Increase the size of the swap file. We recommend that you configure your system with twice as much swap space as you have RAM

OK, I've got a decent PC here, but since the latest Windows Update and Nvidia driver update, I'm having a bit of an issue. Randomly, I will get an error that Windows is running out of memory and that I should close some programs to free RAM. Sadly, I usually have over half of my 16GB of RAM free when this error occurs. After the Nvidia driver update, I started to get some artifacts on the screen like you would see if the card was overheating. My card is sitting quite happily under 45C, so I'm pretty positive that wasn't the issue. I rolled the Nvidia drivers back to 352.63 and that resolved the artifacts and chrome crashing constantly. Still I continue to receive the out-of-memory errors and I cannot figure this out. I could see if the HD was getting full and there's wasn't room for the virtual memory. Except that both my 1TB drives in use are only at about 60% capacity each. I checked the virtual memory settings and it shows 8.7GB comitted of 32GB Allocated. (I've seen it go as far as 47GB allocated, not sure why it gets so high though when only 5GB was used then.) Attached is a Speccy report taken shortly after receiving the error. http://speccy.piriform.com/results/P...oDW1RaIMSv8Iyn My System Specs You need to have JavaScript enabled so that you can use this ...
