by wandee 2 years ago wandee Posted 9/9/14, 3:00 AM I recently started getting this message out of memory at line 1 google chrome intermittently on various websites and having to click on it sometimes many times to get rid is getting to be a pain. Most of out of memory at line 1 firefox the web self help stuff relates to IE8 and I recently allowed my PC to download a whole bunch of updates without checking first. A lot related to IE8 which I don't have -I uninstalled on the day I https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/out-of-memory-line-1-i-d-like-it-to-go-away-552413/ bought the PC, so may be a problem there? I'm a PC numpty, so easy to follow steps to remedy the problem would be much appreciated, thanks. Making this file that small as suggested in that thread is not recommended and that solution was meant for XP that has poor memory management. You should leave the size of the page file at the value that Windows suggest as suitable (optimal). If Windows runs out of (virtual) memory then the OS will crash and with a low value this will happen sooner or later. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2160852 RAM, virtual memory, pagefile, and memory management in Windows http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory Read this answer in context 2 Question tools Get email updates when anybody replies. when a solution is found. I am a developer, and this is starting to come up more and more. It mostly happens in IE 6, 7 and 8, and does not mean the browser is out of memory. We ran tests on a freshly booted maching with a newly opened browser and monitored memory useage. Then we used a browser process monitor while the pages were loading. In every occurence, the errors were thrown when a call out of was made to a CSS file. What we found is one or more of the following:1. The CSS file was was poorly written2. The scripts were written by developers who did not check them using multiple browsers. The browser throws an error when the CSS call fails. So the builders of the web pages that cause that need to be a little more thorough when the build.
