(WPS) on Solaris 64-bit machines v70rnotes; outofmemory; hang; hangs; out of memory Technote (FAQ) Question When you start WebSphere Process Server server on a Solaris 64-bit operating system, why is there an out of memory error and the server start process cannot complete? Cause You want to know why you are seeing these exceptions: 0000004e SystemErr R Exception in thread "Non-deferrable Alarm : 2" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space 0000004f SystemErr R Exception in thread "Non-deferrable Alarm : 3" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space 00000057 SystemErr R Exception in thread "Thread-53" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space. Answer To resolve the issue, increase the Java™ virtual machine (JVM) parameter MaxPermSize to 512M in the server.xml file of the created profile. Complete the following steps: Open the install_root/profiles/profile_name/config/cells/cell_name/nodes/node_name/servers/server_name/server.xml file search for genericJvmArgument. Scroll down towards the end of the file and find the genericJvmArguments property within the jvmEntries attribute. Add -XX:MaxPermSize=512m as the last value for the genericJvmArguments parameter. For example:

Either the execution of wsadmin to install the applications, or the migration of the configuration itself, throws java.lang.OutOfMemory errors. Symptom Out of Memory condition occurs http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21413980 during application deployment The WASPostUpgrade migration process uses the operating system default value for the heap. However, in some cases this might not be enough space to install large applications. When the migration trace is set, it will write the following to the specified trace log file: MIGR0339I: Using wsadmin to deploy the application application_name. exec

SolutionThe default WebSphere's Java Virtual Machine memory is not enough; you should adjust more memory to your WebSphere Application Server. See following guide to increase WebSphere's JVM memory.1. In WebSphere web console, select Servers -> Server Types -> WebSphere application servers out of memory -> Server Infrastructure -> Java and Process Management -> Process definition. 2. In Additional Properties section, select Java Virtual Machine 3. In General Properties section, put 256 for "Initial heap size" and 1024 for "Maximum heap size". Done, restart WebSphere.
