got message saying that resolution did not match & I needed to change the PC 's resolution. I tried to do this via Safe mode however when I rebooted got the same resolution message. Then tried to restart using Safe mode however screen just filled up with code & stopped. So then I thought I would be smart & connect the PC back to my old Benq monitor which it previously worked perfectly on. Booted up & got the "Out benq monitor out of range of Range" message on the Benq monitor. Tried again to startup in Safe mode using F8. Again would not start up in Safe mode & screen again froze up with lots of code on the page. So next I combined the websites for help & got the advice to try & start in VGA mode via F8. Tried this however still get Out of Range message on black screen. If anyone can help/direct me to the answer it would be greatly appreciated as I am all out if ideas. The PC is a Compaq Proliant ML310 G1. I have verified that it is up and running otherwise, by using ssh to access the computer remotely. This message happens at the point exactly prior to when the grub should appear. I cannot see anything except the "out of range" from that point onward. Using the install disc's rescue mode to access terminal commands, I've tried changing the /etc/default/grub file to several different resolutions, doing a sudo update-grub after, none of which worked. I thought maybe it's the frequency that is the problem (which I don't know how to change) but I have also tried uncommenting GRUB_TERMINAL=console, but that didn't help either. Edit: I saw in another post's comments that grub doesn't show unless you hold Shift, so I tried that. I saw "grub loading.." then my monitor started displaying "out of range" again, like before. boot server grub2 resolution display share|improve this question edited Aug 15 '13 at 9:20 Alaa Ali 15.5k95273 asked Aug 15 '13 at 7:25 pineapples 112 Isn't it a message displayed by your monitor, independently from the machine itself ? –John WH Smith Aug 15 '13 at 9:30 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active
