the Club! Stay in touch As seen on What's the obsession with spoons?! Let me tell you about Spoon Theory… acceptance/happier living 24 February 2014Lizzy 1 comment. You may be http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=out%20of%20spoons wondering why there's spoons all over this site… How about a spoons in glass jar necklace, a spoons zipper pull or an engraved teaspoon? Many people with chronic illnesses, particularly those with a fatigue element, are very fond of Christine Miserandino’s Spoon Theory. The Spoon Theory effectively explains what it's like to live with a chronic illness such as CFS/ME, fibromyalgia or lupus, to http://thepillowfort.co.uk/2014/02/whats-obsession-spoon-theory/ name but a few. The Spoon Theory has been embraced by many in the chronic illness ‘world', with lots of people affectionately referring to themselves as ‘Spoonies'. Just search ‘spoonies' on twitter, facebook or tumblr and you'll find a whole host of people talking about life with chronic illness. In addition, you'll often find people talking about being ‘out of spoons' or wishing others ‘an abundance of spoons'. It's almost like a secret language and has definitely far exceeded its original purpose. However, if you're new to The Spoon Theory, I should perhaps add that it's not without its critiques, from the pervasiveness of its use, to the limitations of the analogy. Some people prefer to use the analogy of money for health (e.g. you can save up, go into debt, have a salary, etc). Before I came across Spoon Theory, I always used to refer to my ‘energy marbles' and would always talk about having ‘lost all my marbles'! Another increasingly popular one is The Gorilla in Your House analogy So there you go, that's Spoon Theory and why the chronic

Nice little hack. I note that not only does it make a spoon that is as light and cheap (dumpster-dive at the recycling station for raw materials) as possible, but if you use one as the pattern on the other sides of the same bottle, out of you can make enough for the whole backpacking family and they will next together into very little volume.
DON'T put those in the dishwasher, though. That PETE (recycle symbol #1) won't take the heat. If you want a dishwasher-safe spoon, start with a HDPE bottle (#2) like those pint milk bottles or a lot of cosmetics/shampoo containers out of spoons (run them through the dishwasher before use).
A related hack: The lightest and cheapest possible backpacking plate/bowl is the bottom 3 inches of a half-gallon or gallon HDPE (milky white plastic) milk jug. Mark, cut, you're done. And you can stack several of them together.
Great idea, made myself a spoon from a ginger beer bottle in forty second with a multi tool I keep on my keyring. Surprisingly durable, have left it in my rucksack and used it a few times.
Thanks!
