What are the other likely causes? vb6 stack stack-overflow share|improve this question edited Mar 29 '12 at 7:00 asked Mar 29 '12 at 6:48 CJ7 4,99232114220 I think the question is valid without code. In this case, if he knew the relevent code that caused the problem then he wouldn't need http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9920364/likely-cause-of-out-of-stack-space-in-vb6 to ask the question. Though obviously a general question only gets general errors. For my two cents, I'd ask if you trapped the error in the debugger and inspected the call stack yet? –tcarvin Mar 29 '12 at 12:03 @tcarvin: the error has not yet occurred in the debugger. Only on site. Unfortunately (and obviously) the code does not have proper error handling so a run-time error is all I have. –CJ7 Mar 29 '12 at 12:46 Assuming you have had a good description of the steps to reproduce the error, but you can't reproduce it on your development machines, and after reading the relevant code nothing obvious stands out. Then you need to add some logging and some error handling and send a new build to the site so they can reproduce it and then send back the logs. –MarkJ Mar 29 '12 at 16:19 @MarkJ: Yes, that is a good plan, but what if time is of the essence? If I need to quickly find out what the cause of this error in a module without deploying a new build to a site, what should I be looking for in the code? –CJ7 Apr 5 '12 at 11:23 1 @CraigJ Martin's answer is good. "Event cascades" can be difficult to spot. Sometimes you ha

Thx in advance Daniel G. We would need to see the code to give an informed answer. However, I suspect that you may be using recursion for the doevents loop - this would blow the stack. Please post the code to get a better answer. I threw in a breakpoint just before the line that throws this exception and noticed that the call stack is only three functions deep. Is there any other tool I can use to see what's going on with the stack. I know I have other places in the code where the call chain is more than three functions deep, so something else must be going on. Any ideas? Motaro Seniorius Lurkius Tribus: NYC Registered: Dec 21, 2004Posts: 20 Posted: Tue Dec 21, 2004 10:36 am No, it is not recursive. It does however call a function from a control I am using that was written by someone else - the sgrid 2.0 for visual basic 6 from vbaccelerator. The more changes I try to make, the more I am getting runtime 28 errors. I'm pretty sure the source of the problem is the sublassing used in the implementation of sgrid control, which has caused me problems in the past (like proper shutdown, controls failing to send event notifications, etc). Trying to make visual basic 6 do things it was not designed for is a nightmare. wandergeist Ars Praefectus Registered: Jun 1, 2001Posts: 3412 Posted: Tue Dec 21, 2004 12:57 pm Of course it varies with how much frame data each function pushes, but you should be able to go hundreds of calls deep on the stack (this is certainly the case in the classic "changing the .text property in the change event for the textbox" bug).It sounds to me like the custom control you are using has bugs. Unfortunately, unless the developer has an updated version, there's not much you can do. I would try contacting them about the problem, or consider switching to a different cont
