adapters (well, it has a lot more then that, but http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/AIX-L/2008-08/msg00036.html for this discussion, the others don't matter.) eth3 and eth4 are connected to one switch; eth7 and eth8 are connected to a different switch. I've created two 8023ad-type etherchannels, via the commands: # mkdev -c adapter -s pseudo -t ibm_ech -a 'adapter_names=ent3,ent4' error initializing - a 'use_jumbo_frame=yes' -a 'mode=8023ad' ... which created eth12, and # mkdev -c adapter -s pseudo -t ibm_ech -a 'adapter_names=ent7,ent8' - a 'use_jumbo_frame=yes' -a 'mode=8023ad' ... which created eth13; they work just fine. Now, though, I want to create another etherchannel group, for error initializing a failover (a.k.a., "Network Interface Backup"), that contains eth12 and eth13, but I keep getting errors: # mkdev -c adapter -s pseudo -t ibm_ech -a adapter_names='ent12' -a backup_adapter='ent13' Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgech): 0514-040 Error initializing a device into the kernel. 0821-103 : The command /usr/lib/methods/defif failed. 0821-103 : The command /usr/lib/methods/defif failed.
