Can't start my computer becuase VKD won't initialize https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/263318 Started by Calvin and Hobbes , Jun 01 2006 05:17 PM Please log in to reply #1 Calvin and Hobbes Posted 01 June 2006 - 05:17 PM Calvin and Hobbes Member Member 91 posts When I start my computer (Windows 98), it started up differently, it went to a screen that shows my computer brand, I think, and it checked my NVRAM and loaded my computer. It told me to choose F1 to Run setup or http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/115124-cant-start-my-computer-becuase-vkd-wont-initialize/ F2 to load default values and continue. I chose F2. After, it went to the screen where you choose if you want to start in safe mode, normal mode, etc, even though I did not press F8. I tried to start it up in Normal Mode, but then it goes to a screen that says "While initializing device VKD: Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer." And when I restart my computer it happens all over again athe VKD message comes out again. 0 Advertisements #2 Retired Tech Posted 01 June 2006 - 06:23 PM Retired Tech Retired Staff Retired Staff 20,563 posts This will rebuild the registry and also replace missing or corrupt system filesBoot the PC and keep tapping F8 right after the beep until you get options, select command prompt only, give it a minute to arrive at the prompt with a flashing cursor then type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, it will run through a few screens then say registry repaired. Solved while initializing device VKD-windows protection error- restart- computer shuts error initializing down Posted on 2005-12-16 Windows OS 2 Verified Solutions 9 Comments 3,757 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-28 HELP Hello, I have computer with windows 98. Besides having a floppy drive( not used ) and cd rom drive (not used) it has a tape drive used for back up in it--not sure if this is relevant to problem. The computer boots right into error initializing device the screen where you can choose to start in (1) normal ( 3) safe mode- etc.. and at the bottom tells me to boot to safe mode. but when do or also when try normal come to screen that says: While initializing device VDK Windows protection error You need to restart computer - then shuts down - you try to boot up and same thing happens over again. I unattached printer and cable to router so computer is a stand - alone. It normally connects to small router/switch and has main information for a another computer hooked to the router. This computer when it boots off of tape drive makes noise - like hard starting - even when it was working good - not sure if this info is relevant either. Any ideas?
