I ubuntu couldn't find matching udev device cannot mount my Samsung SII phone/camera in Ubuntu 11. It shows up in nautilus, as a "SAMSUNG_Android" camera device. lsusb shows the following: Bus 003 Device 004: ID 04e8:6860 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd However, when I click on the device in nautilus: Unable to mount location Error initializing camera: -1: Unspecified error There are very little info on this to find on the web. I've tried a couple of "hacks", modified, for some other Samsung devices like Galaxy Tab, but none works. The device doesn't even show up under /dev Anyone got any ideas? Or is the fact of the matter that an Android (Linux-based) device will not work in Linux/Ubuntu, while Apple's iPhone will? I don't know if the S II is the same, but with the Galaxy S there's a setting to say that you haven't been lobotomised and so you aren't going to use Samsung's POS Windows-only software. Then it works a treat. On the Galaxy S, the setting's at Settings -> Wi

I hope with the next 13.04 version they will fix this annoying problem. In the mean time, you can manually add MTP support to your ubuntu's PPA and have seamless access to your android device. In Terminal, issue: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:langdalepl/gvfs-mtp sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install gvfs Restart your computer. You might have to turn on USB Debugging on your Android devices. Next time when you plug it in, there should be no annoying error popups, it should appear in Nautilus as a single device with SD card and internal memory as sub folders, not as two mounted devices. Data transfer should work, but you might have problem accessing the device from some applications, in which case you might want to give Go-mtpfs a try. It requires manual mounting/unmounting the dev

The s4 is still 2 software versions back since I need to unroot to update and just havent had the time or energy to do all of the work to get back to where I'm setup. I think it is 4.2.something. So when I plug my S4 into ubuntu via usb I get an error message "Unable to mount SAMSUNG_Android Error initializing camera:-60: could not lock the device" With my rooted kindle I run gMTP and that gets me access so I tried it with the S4 and it says nothing is available to connect. With my old evo I had no trouble. Even when it wasn't rooted I had access to the sd card just like any other drive being mounted. What's the deal with this s4? I do have usb debugging enabled. usb-connection-mode samsung-galaxy-s-4 mount share|improve this question edited Sep 18 '13 at 15:34 Izzy♦ 63.1k31158450 asked Sep 14 '13 at 20:37 hortstu 2002411 Galaxy S4 uses MTP so you will need to turn debugging off and it should work with gMTP –Zac Powell Sep 14 '13 at 20:38 I believe I have debugging on on the kindle and gMTP still works. I'll have to confirm this later. I might be wrong. –hortstu Sep 15 '13 at 3:00 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted Open a terminal in ubuntu(ctrl+alt+t) and type this commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:langd
