game never launches.I am running Win7 64 bits.I looked through a few forums and they say that we can fix this by downloading the hi-res patch update, but it didn't work for me.Regardless, I think it's crazy that Steam allows to sell a game that won't play on modern systems.I feel completely ripped off.I don't want to spend 4hours trying to figure out how to patch/mod the game just so I can play it, when I can just pirate it and get it playing directly.Did anyone encounter this problem ? How did you fix it? Is Steam aware of this ? < > Showing 1-13 of 13 comments H2K View Profile View Posts 16 Nov, 2013 @ 2:05pm I am having the same issues. Can anyone help me out? #2 ZapaN View Profile View Posts 18 Nov, 2013 @ 1:13pm Ok so after some research, it seems that this error will occur on most modern systems...I think it's shocking that steam proposes a purchase without at least telling us that there is this compatibility problems. Did they even test it before releasing? Also, appa

The problem consists of an error message saying that I can't initialize the mode 640x480 but the truth of the matter is that I can. There is an advanced option in the system settings that error initializing allows me to enter 640x480 but even then the message appears. Anyone know the solution? /Sopparn GaTuSoPPaReN, Jun 21, 2007 GaTuSoPPaReN, Jun 21, 2007 #1 Phoenix58 First time out of the vault Messages: 2 Likes Received: 0 Joined: Jun 21, 2007 theres seem to be a problem with directx, this is what i did. - Right Click, Properties - Settings Tab - Advanced Button - Troubleshoot Tab - move the slider to the middle instead of Full (Disable all cursor and advanced drawing accelerations. error initializing video Use this setting to correct drawing problems.) or run dxdiag Start > Run, type "dxdiag" I hope thats helps Phoenix58, Jun 22, 2007 Phoenix58, Jun 22, 2007 #2 Exorph First time out of the vault Messages: 5 Likes Received: 0 Joined: Jun 28, 2007 I'm having the same problems in vista and the computer doesn't seem to let me change any of the settings described in that reply. I'm using my friend's non-gaming laptop and would prefer not to have to screw around too much with it. Is there a possible solution to the problem that doesn't involve reverting back to like.. ten year old drivers? The graphics card is just some random crappy one called VIA Chrome9 HC. Oh, and this is about Fallout 2 if that makes a difference. In the Troubleshooting tab it tells me the card doesn't allow me to change the hardware acceleration (I th

I am having trouble with an error I get each time I try to start a recently installed game. I receive the following error: Video mode initialization error. Please contact your video card vendor to obtain the latest video drivers. At risk of sounding foolish, how do I find out who my video card vendor is and where do I go to get the latest drivers? Any help would be much apppreciate. Thank you. Logged Richenstony Guest Re: Video Mode Initialization Error « Reply #1 on: September 27, 2007, 09:37:37 AM » Try this :1.Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.2.In the DirectX Diagnostic dialog box, click the Display or Display 1 tab.3.In the Device pane, note the value that is next to Approx. Total Memory, and then click Exit.4.If you have less than 16 megabytes (MB) of video memory installed on your video adapter, install additional video memory on your video adapter, or install a video adapter that has more video memory. You also could try updateing your video cards drivers.....Tony Logged hannibelle Guest Re: Video Mode Initialization Error « Reply #2 on: September 27, 2007, 09:41:37 AM » Ok, Just did that..Approx.Total Memory: 32.0 MBCould there be another reason I am getting this error?
