Every time I tried to launch Windows Journal, or any other program that supports the Ink function, I would get this error: There was an error initializing inking components. If this problem persists after restarting, contact your system administrator.Click to expand... Digging around the system logs and searching the Internet finally turned up a reference to WISPTIS.EXE that is supposed to be located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ I could not find the file in that folder, but it did exist in C:\Windows\System32\ so I figured "What the hell" and copied it into the SysWOW64 folder and all problems went away, without even restarting the system. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64, but scattered references seem to indicate it could happen with a similar cause on XP Tablet Edition as well but I doubt it since the solution involves a 64 bit only system folder. I can't figure out what happened - I haven't installed anything in weeks, haven't applied any updates, and haven't had any other problems for quite a while. I don't know if the file got moved over to System32, if there's supposed to be a copy in both folders, or if there's a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the file but my system is still willing to use the 32 bit version. This one's bugging me, so I'll probably end up digging around some more. Will post any additional info I come up with.
