Event 1058 Group Policy Windows 7
I done migration from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2 with adprep.exe by running adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep /gpprep grouppolicy 1058 windows 2008 on Windows 2003 R2. When I run gpupdate /force on Windows 2009 R2 with the following message: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\sysvol>gpupdate /force Updating Policy... User policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were

no fun... I did the usual stuff. I asked Dr. Google of course. I tried permissions. I tried re-shares. I checked FRS microsoft windows grouppolicy 1058 and DFS and many other TLAs along the way. Nothing. From the 2x domain controllers, I could access the \\server\sysvol\domain\policies stuff just fine. I could also access the \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies stuff. No problems. But, from domain joined servers/computers, https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/b6a2e648-70fa-44c5-ac07-c16b9798385a/windows-2008-r2-has-event-id-1058-group-policy-error?forum=winserverGP it was a no go. I could get to \\server\sysvol\domain but it was empty. Same with \\domain\sysvol\domain - empty. Finally, I dropped to a command prompt and found this Do you see it? No, I don't mean my horrible "coloring job" - I mean the Junction pointing to C:\Winnt\path... Really? WINNT? What decade is this? Anyway, without trying to figure out who/what/why, I simply removed that junction point and re-added it with "mklink" http://www.darylhunter.me/blog/2011/06/solved-group-policy-gptini-event-id-1058-1030.html like so Then, I did a "gpupdate /force" to force a Group Policy Update. Then went to check the logs again... BAM! I still got it... Hope this helps. I found many "me too" people with issues, and many different forums suggesting many different fixes. I thought I would add my own fix to the mix. Woah, that rhymed. G'nite. My friend. I had the same problem and was resolved after remove all groups of the user. Then i went puting the groups one-by-one until find the problem group. Posted by: Ricardo | 08/04/2012 at 09:55 PM Hi Daryl, my JUNCTION path was pointing to "domain.local". 1/ Would I still need to make that change since WINNT wasn't part of the path? 2/ If so, would you be able to email me the command to removed and re-add the JUNCTION entry to my gmail account at bostonbajan@gmail.com thank you in advance. Group Policy "The Processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}\gpt.ini from adomaincontroller and was notsuccessful." I passed by this error lately with severalenvironmentsrunning Windows 2008 or 2008R2 Domain controllers. The key http://itcalls.blogspot.com/2011/11/troubleshooting-event-id-1058-group.html element in resolving this issue is to determine which group policy is causing this problem. When you install GPMC you get a sample folder full of very useful scripts that make use of GPMC COM interfaces, http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-1058-source-Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-eventno-9883-phase-1.htm The Script we are looking for is the DumpGPOInfo.wsf. For some reason Windows 2008 doesn't include this folder and you will have to download it manually from the following link http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14536 After downloading and installing group policy the Sample scripts, use the above mentioned file to get the name of the GPO generating the above error. Cscript DumpGPOInfo.wsf {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} This will give you the friendly name of the GPO. You may delete, rename……….etc the GPO from the Group Policy Management Console. In my case I just enabled/disabled one setting and it worked fine and I was able to recreate the GPT.ini file back. 6 Comments Comments 6 comments: eduardo 1058 group policy matriz Says: November 13, 2012 at 10:43 AM Hi, I am very interesting your post in you blog 'cause I have the same problem and need to fix. I already download and install the said scripts but the problem is I can't go through 'cause your post didn't mentioned where I go to check the errors of my GPO...Can you give me the sample step? Thanks and more power! Ahmed Nabil Says: November 13, 2012 at 8:59 PM Thanks for your feedback. After getting your friendly name GPO using the above script, just open this GP from the GPMC and check its setting as well as the GPT.ini. In my case the GPT.ini file was missing so i removed the GP and created it again. One other case i had to change one of its settings to make it work. It all depends on your GP. Comments: EventID.Net See the link to EV100186 ("Microsoft TechNet: Group Policy Preprocessing (Networking)") for details on solving this problem. x 19 EventID.Net According to EV100608 (Group Policy Windows attempted to read the filed), this may happen if a group policy has not been yet replicated to one of the domain controller. The solution is to identify the specified policy, verify that it does exist on the domain controller reporting the error and then re-initiate the replication using gpupdate. x 1 Anonymous In my case, I tried what Microsoft recommended by going to and trying to open gpt.ini at \\dcname\SYVOL\
