Home > Tech Hub > Resolving Group Policy Error 0x8007000d Group Policy Error Resolving Group Policy Error 0x8007000d by Rick Barber on November 26, 2011 While working on your http://www.sherweb.com/blog/resolving-group-policy-error-0x8007000d/ server you may come across the following error in the Application logs. http://www.homidoit.com/group-policy-local-users-and-groups-event-id-8194/ Event Type: Error Event Source: Group Policy Local Users and Groups Event Category: (2) Event ID: 8194 Date: 11/26/2011 Time: 6:37:36 PM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: SERVER1 Description: The client-side extension could not remove computer policy settings for ‘Domain Policy Name {SPID}' because it failed with error code ‘0x8007000d The group policy data is invalid.' See trace file for more details. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. This is usually caused by a corrupt or malformed XML file in the local server's group policy cache. This usually happens when there is a crash or unexpected shutdown of the server while a Group Policy update is taking place. To resolve this issue, 8194 group policy clear the Group Policy cache on the local server and have the Group Policy cache repopulated. 1) Open Windows Explorer 2) Paste %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Group Policy\History in the address bar 3) Delete all the sub folders in that location 4) Open command prompt 5) Type the following gpupdate /force 6) Verify that sub folders have once again shown up in the Group Policy cache location above. The above clears the Group Policy cache on the server and puts a fresh copy of the Group Policy preferences on the local server. Toys R Us Government Return to Content Group Policy Local Users and Groups - Event ID: 8194 By Mike on October 24, 2012 in Featured, Microsoft, Software If you ask me, nothing is more frustrating than when group policy objects don't work how they are supposed to. Whether it is that they aren't applying when they should or applying when they shouldn't. Regardless, my PDC was giving me this error today: "The client-side extension could not remove computer policy settings for ‘Default Domain Policy {31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}' because it failed with error code ‘0x8007000d The data is invalid.' See trace file for more details." Sure thing boss, that makes some sense. Or Not. Here is what I had to do: Open up the object indicated in the error message from with in Group Policy Object Editor. Expand: Default Domain Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy -> Logging and tracing I enabled ALL of the options and set the settings for each to this: I'm on a Windows Server 2008 machine so my log/trace files were located here: C:\ProgramData\GroupPolicy\Preference\Trace I opened up the log file there and searched for: 0x8007000d I found the search string and a line or two above it was the path we need to head to (yours may differ): "F:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Group Policy\History\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\Preferences\Groups\" Rename the file that is there, in my case it was Groups.xml. I simply renamed it to GroupsOld.xml Run gpupdate /force That's it. Now tell me, why can't the error logs in Event Viewer just come right out and say that?!
