Group Policies and Access Denied ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Matt HesterOctober 29, 20056 0 0 0 One Technologies in Active Directory I am extremely passionate about is Group Policy and I would love to group policy object did not apply access is denied write some more articles on Group Policy, but I want to make sure I group policy editor access denied windows 7 publish topics that are of interest to you. So if you would like see more on group policy please comment to group policy management network access is denied this blog entry and let me know what you want to see. This entry is based on email's I have gotten with the problem of the administrators have been denied access to the Group group policy access denied (security filtering) Policies. Enjoy! All right so you just watched my 14 part web cast series on group policy. You are all excited and starting to test the policies and with you being the administrator you are thinking of all the wonderful things you can limit on your user’s desktop. You are also very aware that as administrator you are above the policy settings, it is good to be the king.

So you decide to make sure the polices do not apply to you, so you use the wonderful deny permissions and deny all from the administrator, so you do not get them applied to you. Then you click ok and go about your daily rounds and then decide to implement even more settings then you go back to Group Policy Management Console and you get this message: ACCESS DENIED! Then you realize that the deny all permission are very good at what they do. I will also tell you I have seen this same problem surface when you try to run ADPREP and DOMAINPREP on a 2000 system you are going to upgrade, the log entry for that is fairly specific as well: “Adprep was unable to complete because the call back function (null) failed. [Status/Consequence]Error message: Windows cannot set new permissions for Group Policy Object Directory” So then the question becomes what now and how do I fix it. The fix actually quite straight forward, all you need to is give your self permissions to theAD properties for the Group Policy and the actual directory where the policies are stored. I borrowed the steps from KB884884. 1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Admi

your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Here is something I have never run into before. I am RDP'd to my domain controller which is Windows Server 2008 32 bit (Virtualized) and there is a shortcut on the desktop for Group Policy Management. When I click https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/451056-group-policy-management-access-denied it, I get a dialogue box titled Group Policy Management Console that says "Access is denied." When I try to go through Administrative tolls I get the same error. The kicker is I am logged into the box as Administrator. Ideas? You shouldn't have to RDP to a server except on rare occasions. 0 Tabasco OP GregBriggs Feb 27, 2014 at 5:43 UTC I'll download that and take a look at it. We also have a secondary domain controller and I can open group policy from that with no issue. XP workstation. The administrator has a standard user account and an administrator account. I migrated his standard user account and administrator account to a new Active Directory forest. ADMT performed security translation on his profile. The administrator can successfully login to the new domain keeping his same profile and settings. Problem: The administrator opens MMC using "run as" and specifies his administrative credentials in the source forest. He can access AD Users and Computers and make configuration changes. When he tries to add group policy management console (GPMC) to the MMC console he receives Access is Denied. I used Sysinternals Process Monitor (Procmon.exe) and noticed it was having problems writing to a particular registry key. I granted the administrator account full control over the profile using regedit. This resolved the problem.
