Dell Poweredge 2850 Hard Drive
PowerEdge 2850 with 4x4GB PC3200 ECC RAM (RAM ordered at DELL). On the maschine works an VMware ESX 3.0 with latest vSphere Version.Last night the maschine hung up. The ESX said: Your maschine has dell poweredge 2850 power consumption an hardware error. Please contact your hardware support. On the LCD was the message: EB10C (ECC Error on DIMM)So i restarted the maschine to watch out what was wrong. But i only got an error beep 1-3-2 (means: No memory installed) and the POST didn't start . I connected to the iDRAC4 interface and saw that there was an ECC-Error on DIMM-2A.So i thought the RAM was defect. I took dell poweredge 2850 specs the old original RAM-modules (only 4x1GB) and put them into the maschine. But on startup the same beep. I also tried only one module seperatly on DIMM-1A and DIMM-1B . No sucess. Our support is out of time. So does anyone know this issue on an PE 2850 or an other maschine? Thanks,Peter Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Have a Dell PowerEdge 6800 server. We had 4 sticks of 512MB ECC memory and began to receive warnings about a potential error for Mem A in DIMM1A during each bootup. We waited for a few weeks and found a sale on Crucial RAM dell poweredge and purchased 2 sticks of 4GB as replacements. Also ECC. We were fine until we really started using the machine with a full staff (after 3 weeks time). The 8GB of RAM froze the server twice and each resulted in Dell EB10c hardware errors. EB10c implies ECC Uncorr Err Bank 1. Keep in mind with the new 4GB sticks, we do NOT receive warnings on boot up like we did with the 512 sticks. What do you suggest? I'm tempted to put the 4GB sticks back in dell poweredge 2850 labeled and wait for the system to crash again so I can swap positions to see if it's continually Bank 1 or if it changes and indicates just a single stick of RAM bad. After swapping ram sticks, Bank 1 errors would imply bad Memory Controller correct? This server uses a large memory riser card to hold the RAM and manage it. 0 Question by:mdelato Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 6 Best Solution byjwguillory At this point I am leaning towards the memory riser card being the culprit. But the only sure fire way is to put the memory back in, wait for the error to occur and then swap the memory. Also when you boot the the 4gig sticks, do you have any other memory in the system at the same time? 0 Message Author Comment by:mdelato2009-03-30 jwguillory- Thanks for your quick reply. I was out of the office all this time. These are Dual Rank Memory sticks. They work in pairs and there was no additional RAM in the system at the time. Some additional info... there are 4 slots for RAM riser controller cards. I'm forced to use slot A and cannot use other slots unfortunately. I was trying to boot from slot B but would not allow it. 0 LVL 6 Overall: Level 6 Server Hardware
