We had also tried several power downs, restarts, and removing the newer drive. share|improve this answer answered Sep 11 '11 at 10:19 Scott Szretter 95583255 Any reason why you did not call Dell? –Nils Sep 22 '11 at 21:01 Not in warranty, I was told they will not talk to us if not in warranty? –Scott Szretter Sep 24 '11 at 12:59 That`s a reason, indeed. Perhaps you could mention that next time. –Nils Sep 24 '11 at 19:55 I would add to this that Dell had me TOTALLY take the RAID card out of the box, restart it without the card, shut down again, and put the RAID card back in. This apparently /really/ reseats the card as opposed to just pushing down on it to make sure it's "in". It worked for me on a Dell R420. –Matt Aug 2 '12 at 21:19 add a comment

When they cam in this morning it was not responding, blank screen. It was not responding to ping, would not serve DHCP or DNS etc. After a hard reboot it went through the BIOS & Windows loading screen back to the blank screen & not responding. After another hard reboot it ran through BIOS & Windows loading screen to https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/187797-poweredge-840-not-booting the login screen. This time it would respond to pings & resolve DNS for external websites. When I tried to log in to the console it froze up, stopped responding to ping & would not resolve DNS. I decided to unplug everything, open the side & check all the connections & now when we try to boot it goes straight to a screen saying: RN50 A21 BIOS PCIe Training Error: Slot 1 System Halted! The System Halted! is yellow flashing text on a blue background. Any help would be appreciated, this is their only server & has all their files etc saved on it. Backups were going to be one of their new years resolutions. Solved PCI training error slot 1 system halted Posted on 2013-08-02 Server Hardware 1 Verified Solution 5 Comments 7,894 Views Last Modified: 2013-09-04 I have a customer that has a Dell PowerEdge 840 that does not boot up. We are getting the error PCI training error. If we remove the PCI card, the server turns on and we can dell poweredge enter the bios normally. I have recommended to the customer that the server needs to be replaced but we need to extract the data. If we were to find a used or new controller, assuming it is the controller that is bad, does this particular controller model save the raid configs on the drives? The device is a USC-51 (E2K-USC-51 (B) I think this would be the cheapest and quickest solution to get the server booted up. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. dell poweredge 860 0 Question by:ptsolutionsinc Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 46 Active 1 day ago Best Solution bydlethe If you still can't get it to work, then you can get a non-RAID controller and buy yourself a copy of runtime.org 's RAID reconstructor software. Boot system to windows and plug those disks into it, along with a HDD (or network-attached drive that is big enough) .. and it will reconstruct the RAID into a single HDD file or directly onto a large enough HDD, or network image so it will boot as a single non-RAID disk once you copy it to a physical disk you are OK to reformat with this new image. Then you can use a RAID co

The only PCIe devices (other than motherboard-integrated ones) are two QLogic 2462 fiber channel adapters. It is currently running ESX 3.0.1 and Dell OpenManage 5.1.The server is running the latest available system BIOS, backplane firmware, system management firmware, etc.Last night, the system suddenly crashed. At the time, there were no active VMs on the system, so the server was not being worked anywhere near maximum load. When the server crashed it produced the following error message: RVM100-M BIOSPCIe training error - Slot 3System haltedThe system halt was a complete one - TCP/IP went down, file systems were shut down dirty. Slot 3 contained one of the QLogic 2642 fiber channel cards. The server was originally built with VMWare ESX 3.0.0, but I upgraded it in-place to ESX 3.0.1 last week. The "PCIe Training Error" did NOT occur at any time running ESX 3.0.0.I opened a case with Dell about this error after finding very little on-line. All they have suggest so far is moving the QLogic card from slot 3 to slot 4 to see if this causes the error to go away. So I have done this, but am now waiting to see if the error is going to crop up again.Any thoughts about what a "PCIe Training Error" is, and what I can do to fix it before I put this server into production??? 6104Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final.
