There are 6 146GB SAS drives in the system and a PERC 5/i RAID controller to partition for a 20gb C drive (Windows Server 2003 installed) and 660gb for the data D drive. I'm assuming that I'm going to have to replace the failing drive but never having had to replace a drive which is part of a RAID array, I'm a little bit cautious so any advice would be appreciated. Harke Feb 17, 2011 at 4:35 UTC Remove the faulty Hard Drive If you have support contract with DELL, call them and provide your dell service tag, and request for a replacement disk. You should get it within couple of days. Otherwise you buy a identical SAS hard disk with at least the size of the old one. Once you have the disk, just remove the faulty disk from the bay#0 (or whatever bay number it says on your LCD display). Now, the LCD message will change to “E1812 HDD 0 removed“. Insert the new Hard Drive Insert the new hard drive into the bay#0. As the disk is part of RAID-5 (i think), you’ll see both the disks that are part of the RAID-5 will start blinking. This indicates that the RAID-5 is syncing the data between the disks. Finally, the message “E1810 HDD 0 fault” will disappear from the front LCD panel. The LCD panel will now display the standard blue light with “DELL PowerEdge” message. Following are my recommendations on what you can do to fix this.1) HDD is blinking amberYour HDD is failed or may have suffered from a disconnection of the raid.First thing to do is http://www.dell-forum.com/raids/lcd-error-e1810-hdd-0-fault/ to unplug and then replug the hard drive.HDD should start in rebuild, blinking amber. 2) HDD goes amber againWell, if your HDD goes amber again, this is because the controller found a lot of hardware errors and decided to remove the hard drive from raid. You have to replace it with a new one. 3) HDD stays greenGood, this is working fine. 4) There is no led after replugging the hard driveBad news, check that the hard drive is working on another slot: if there is no Led on another slot, your HDD is dead, replace it. If it shows green on another slot, you have an issue with your backplane, sas cables or Perc. Consider update/replace it. I have a Poweredge 2950 server that is showing an LCD status error of E1810 - HDD 5 Fault. When I locate the hard drive on the server, it has a rapid blinking amber light on top and a slower blinking green light below the amber one. In reviewing the server information via Dell's OpenManage Server Administrator, there was a non-critical dell poweredge 2900 warning regarding the Hardware Log, so I cleared it and that has been rectified. There is another non-critical warning in the Storage section. When I expand the Storage and view the six drives, they all have a green check (OK) next to their status, and none have failure predicted. Yesterday I ran a Dell Online diagnostic test against HDD5, and it completed succesfully with no errors found. When I expand the PERC 5/i Integrated RAID controller, it shows a non-critical warning indication next to the Firmware/Driver Versions. In checking these, I have out of date firmware and driver versions. 1) Can out of date firmware/drivers throw fault errors on a hard drive? If I am interpreting the data on the OMSA correctly, the only issue this server has is outdated firware and drivers. 2) How, in detail, do I go about safely updating the firmware and drivers? I realize I can go out to Dell and find them by the server's service tag. Specifically, what I would like to know is what order do I install these and is there anything else I need to do in preparation for updating them?
