Now according to the DVD size indicator, the size of this DVD is at 5.6 GB. I purchased Dual Layer Memorex DVD's at Bestbuy to burn my DVD to (I've heard memorex is not the best media on some forms, but it was the only option I had). Within DVD Studio Pro I made sure to set the option that I was burning to a dual layer, red laser, etc...I go to burn the DVD and it gets to 99%...and once it begins the formatting and writing the data, I get a prompt stating "The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error". My only option it to click cancel and then states "Formatting failed...The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)I have tried burning my DVD on two different computers. One new Mac Pro and the other on a 2009 early iMac model. I used 2 different Memorex DL DVD on both attempts.Any advise to solve my problem? Avoid them and any of the cheap brands such as those that can be bought at the supermarket. They are only cheap if they actually work.Good brands are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. A little more expensive but they work well. I use Verbatim exclusively, never had one go wrong. 2014 11:24AM) Cory Hi, I've been trying to trouble shoot this issue for 2 days now. I feel like I've read every forum, watched every video and no solutions are availing themselves. Production was edited in FCP7 I've authored a DL disk in DVDSP. It has 2 video layers that share the same audio track. (I've done this before and there wasn't an issue - one video layer is a multi-cam edit, the other layer is a static wide) Each video layer is approx 100 minutes. I've exported both video files from FCP, multiple times to make sure the GOP structure matches. Other items on the disk are simple a small slideshow, and some simple menus. (take up little space) I've been able to successfully https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2300454?start=0&tstart=0 follow instruction to set my own breakpoints and have been able to build and format the production to hard drive. But when I try to burn the .img file using Toast to disk it fails and says: MEDIUM ERROR Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03 When I try to build it in DVDSP I get: Unknown device error (0x09, 0x01) - to which it was suggested that I try different media, I have... same problem exists. It has been suggested that maybe my burner is dead http://www.kenstone.net/discussions/read.php?3,43817,43817 - yet I can still burn DVD-5 just fine. Though DVD-9 can hold up to 8.5gb, my assets total only 7.5 leaving plenty of room to build. Any advice you can give would be key. This isn't the first time I've built a DL DVD in this program, but it's the first time I've ever had these issues. Much appreciated... Computer specs: MacBook Pro 2.3Ghz Intel i7 8GB DDR3 ram Exported from FCP 7 DVDSP 4.2.2 Files are all housed on a Thunderbolt external drive. Cheers Alexander Reply Quote Re: DVDSP dual layer disk error(s) - will burn to drive but not to disk (February 13, 2014 05:52AM) Cory Thanks Alexander - that is the media I am using. PROBLEM SOLVED... After being at my whits end, I took the video_TS files and transferred them over to my 8yr old G5 tower. I loaded the project in DVDSP via: Advanced Burn --> Format --> choose Source as my Video_TS folder and commenced a burn (since the project was already built). It took a long time, but it worked. I don't know if the burner in my 2yr old MacBook is broken and won't burn DL disks (the specs say it should), even after I tested burning a single layer disk and succeeded. It all comes down to how finicky

Maybe you all can help. First off, one of my two superdrives failed to burn DVDs. Just a total failure. It would get to like 99.9% on the "formatting" dvd studio pro progress bar, and then i would get an "unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)" From what I've read, this means either that the drive is dying or the lasers are dirty. Right? More perplexing though, is my 2nd problem. I compressed 3 different timelines to m2v for burning 3 unique DVDs. they export fine, and i bring those files into dvd studio pro and begin burning. at this point, i get my aforementioned drive failure. I go in to "advanced burn" so that i can specify the other superdrive to burn the disc. i do so, and it burns successfully. now the weird part... i prep the other two DVDs and go through this same process. each simulates and burns successfully. however, when played back through a DVD player, ALL THE DISCS ARE THE SAME. i want to reiterate... each disc had unique video tracks that simulated successfully prior to burning. i have never had to use the 'advanced burn' function before, so i am guessing that this is the cause of this seeming witchcraft. to fix this one, i ended up "building" the DVDs to VIDEO_TS folders and burning in toast. but i really need to figure this one out as i do a lot of burning for clients. one other thing i noticed, both drives are labeled ident

Seams to be a common problem caused by dodgy media or dirty lens.if you see a Power Calibration Error (0x73, 0x03), check your media and check your drive for dust or suspect impending failure:Your blank DVD media is defective or not suitable for use with your drive.Laser/lens in your drive is dirty or failing - use a lens cleaner; disassemble the drive and blow it out with a can of compressed air; replace the drive.Check for a firmware update for your drive from the manufacturer (Pioneer as an example).
