For a long time last year I encountered problems burning discs an finally stopped being able to read any type of disc either. I was lucky enough to still have cover from university and the optical drive was replaced and all has been well. However I have been editing my girlfriends home movies to give as a christmas collection and I have been unable to burn DVDs again. The DVDs i am using are Verbatim 4.7Gb DVD-R.Using DVD Studio Pro I encounter the error "The recording device reported the hardware error: Unknown device error. (0x44, 0x86.)"I have read that some could be burn speeds however I have also used Toast and set the speed to 4x and encounterd the error:The drive reported an error: Sense Key = HARDWARE ERRORSense Code = 0x44, 0x86INTERNAL TARGET FAILUREI am assuming I will be having to take this is again even though it was only replaced a few months ago and had hardly any use. Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8) Posted on Dec 17, 2009 10:18 AM I have this question too by Edward A. Oates,Solvedanswer Edward A. Oates Level 5 (4,880 points) A: All of the new Mac Book Pro, Mac Book, Mac MIni, and iMac machines sport 8x burners. Some older machines in those classes (G5?) had 16x burners. Only the Mac Pro has 18x burners now days.So at least part of your problem is that your burner does not support 16x burning.Diskmakers.com (no affiliation) has 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R for 28cents each or white printable for 35 cents each (100 disks in a cake box). In my experience, TY's are the only way to go for consistent results.Eddie O Posted on Dec 21, 2009 1:04 PM See the answer in context Close Q: Burning Error! Things that can kill an electronic device are high heat, dust and/or wildly varying voltage. On the other hand, sometimes devices just fail without an obvious cause.x Helpful (1) Reply options Link to this post by djdude, djdude Dec 17, 2009 12:52 PM in response to djdude Level 1 (10 points) Dec 17, 2009 12:52 PM in response to djdude So best thing would to be have it checked at apple again?I assume iv i take all the vob files etc from a build and transf
