Posted on 2003-12-10 Lotus IBM 1 Verified Solution 21 Comments 18,557 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-18 i am ASP developer and this is the first time i deal with Lotus Notes. I am trying to initialize an Lotus Notes Session. however, i got an error "An exception of type 'NotesSession:Notes error: could not open the ID file' was not handled" when i try to use InitializeUsingNotesUserName() with username and password, i got a different error message "'An invalid username/password' was not handled". here's that section of the code: Dim s set s = CreateObject("Lotus.NotesSession") Call s.Initialize("password") 'and then process documents..... some environment info.: i am running win2k, with lotus notes client installed. Lotus Domino Server is not installed. i have checked the notes.ini file, KeyFilename=user.id. i've tried changing it to the full path, but didn't help. i noticed if i used InitializeUsingNotesUserName() without passing parameters, then i'm fine and have no problem initializing, however, come back an error saying anonymous user not allowed to open database. what should i do???? 0 Question by:asenna25 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 31 Best Solution byqwaletee OK, you can use this installation. I'm not sure why the password is not working... you are absolutely certain that you DO have a password on the ID file (prompted when Notes starts), and that this password Go to Solution 21 Comments LVL 31 Overall: Level 31 Lotus IBM 30 Message Expert Comment by:qwaletee2003-12-10 InitializeUinsgNotesUserName is only intended for use on servers. 0 LVL 24 Overall: Level 24 Lotus IBM 23 Message Expert Comment by:HemanthaKumar2003-12-10 In your path settings include notes exe directory (where notes.ini) resides ~Hemanth 0 LVL 24 Overall: Level 24 Lotus IBM 23 Message Expert Comment by:HemanthaKumar2003-12-10 The Domino COM objects must be able to locate a valid NOTES.INI file, looking first in the Domino or Notes program directory and then at the PATH system vari

The https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20822268/URGENT-Could-not-open-ID-file.html customer has made sure that: The ID file is not in use by another application. The ID file can be opened with a Notes Client mapped to the DAMO \Data directory. The Name & Address Book (NAB) has the appropriate cross certificates. Answer One case: The customer checked the Log.nsf for errors; both the failed and successful attempts to create the profile contained the following error message: "Directory Assistance failed opening Primary Domino Directory names.nsf, error: File http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21196473 does not exist." The user whose profile was successfully created saw this message: "Database (C:\Program Files\DominoForOutlook\pernames.ntf) time is too far in the future" A look at the system clock indicated that the system time was set to a year prior to the actual date. For example, if today is January 8, 2005, the system clock shows January 8, 2004. Correcting this system clock allowed for all user profiles to be created successfully. The problem occurs with the following steps: 1. Run DAMO to create a new MAPI profile. 2. Enter the user name and Domino server (fully qualified Internet host name ). 3. Point to the location of the user ID file. 4. Enter the password. 5. Allow creation of a Cross certificate. After a few moments the error, "Unable to open the ID file" occurs. Another case: In another customer's case involving the "Unable to Open ID file" error, the customer did not receive the second error "Database (C:\Program Files\DominoForOutlook\pernames.ntf) time is too far in the future". However, when using the same ID to access the Domino Directory, the following error occurred: "Server Error: The Signature on the certificate was found to be invalid". The customer determined that the user was in an Organization Unit that needed to be recertified by the Parent Organization's certifier ID. After recertifying the OU cert.id and then recertifying the user, the error n

(But Tomcat has no such problem.) –Matt Feb 4 '13 at 6:19 Check what OS account is WS using. –Frantisek Kossuth Feb 5 '13 at 12:05 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Check the credentials under which Websphere is running.
