Notes Error This Function Is Inappropriate For File System Directories
Using @DbLookup Notes; Incident 1258128; Workstation/Desktop; Application Development; @Functions/Formulas; ND6; ND 6 Technote (FAQ) Question When a customer attempts to use the @DbLookup function to generate keywords for a dialog list the function returns the following error message in Notes 5.x Client: "This function is inappropriate for directories" In Notes 6.x Client the error returned is slightly different: "This function is inappropriate for file system directories" Answer In this case, the @DbLookup command was referencing a variable for the database name, and that variable was simply misspelled. Normally, the error message would be "File does not exist" if the database name was misspelled. A possible cause for the "...function is inappropriate for directories" error message was that the variable name used in the @DbLookup command was potentially pointing Notes to a directory. The customer corrected the spelling of the variable which resolved the problem. Error: (0x021c) 'This function is inappropriate for file system directories.' - BTLNStatusStart could not open MigrationStatus view [BinaryTree debug info: in C:\src\cmt\BTNotes\btsession.cpp at line 525] Resolution: The first thing that should be done is to verify that the Exchange account being used for the migration has Take ownership rights to the root of the Exchange mail store. It also cannot have Deny: Send as or Deny: Receive as applied to it, as those permissions are used to access the Exchange data as the mailbox owner: Try opening the mailbox generating the error with the same MAPI profile you're using for the http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21098886 migration. The best way to do this is to create a new MAPI profile as if for that user in your local Outlook installation. You'll need to turn on Prompt for a profile to be used in the Show Profiles section of the Mail applet in the Control Panel: Then when you launch Outlook, you'll have the option to choose which profile to use, as well as create http://supportkb1.binarytree.com/website2000/support/supportknow.nsf/5e1098f76629af2186256be9006052b5/dbe834497e4d84f0862572810070c31a?opendocument a new profile: If you're prompted for a username and password during this process, that's an indication that your logged-in Windows user does not have rights to the Exchange mailbox. If you're able to open the inbox as the user and view messages without error, you probably have sufficient rights. The best access test is to try migrating the user with a MAPI profile created for that user's Exchange mailbox. If that works but using your migration MAPI profile doesn't, then that profile is the problem. Try creating a new migration MAPI profile using an Exchange maintenance account (meaning that it has take ownership rights to the root of the mail store). In case the problem is the MAPI configuration on your PC, you should also run c:\windows\system32\fixmapi.exe. This is a simple fixup utility that Microsoft provides to address common MAPI problems. It can resolve simple MAPI conflicts which are sometimes caused by different programs that may have altered the MAPI configuration on your workstation. If you have verified that the Exchange account you're using has appropriate access and can't find any other problems on your workstation, we recommend attempting the migration from another workstation to see if that works.

We can manually cut and paste messages from the inbox to the archive notes error file, and the filename and location for the archive file is correct. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Notes client 6.5, multi-user config. Thanks! "Archive Selected Documents" results in the same error, but I can cut and paste into the archive. Thanks! 0 LVL 31 Overall: Level 31 Lotus IBM 30 Message Expert Comment by:qwaletee2011-02-15 YOu need to look at the archive profile of the mail file and make sure the archive database is set correctly. Its a hidden profile document in the user's main active Notes mail database. BTW, if this is in fact the problem, then when the user clicks the m ail interface option for switching to the archive, you'll probably get a similar error. 0 LVL 1 Overall: Level 1 Message Author Comment by:Scottws12011-02-16 qwaletee, thanks, but I was not able to find a hidden file where the email db is located on his computer.
