Try Quicktime Movie, self contain as an option. I took one course in FCP about a year ago, and was taught that way; sometimes I use Compressor too. to work with .mov files from my nikkon, final cut pro gives me a general error after i've added a couple of clips to the timeline, it used to be no problem but I don't know how to https://www.quora.com/How-to-fix-a-general-error-in-final-cut-pro-7 solve the general error... any help?UpdateCancelAnswer Wiki3 Answers David Baril, Editing, commercial DVD authoring, FCP 7 ex-userWritten 189w agoIf you absolutely want to keep using FCP 7, you are going to have to convert your footage to good old http://www.calgaryfcpug.com/troubleshooting/7560-help-codec-not-found-no-corresponding-hardware.html proRes beforehand. You can use FCP's media manager or Apple Compressor for that.I once edited a whole project in FCP 7 using the native Canon 5D files and while it started well enough, it got more instable as the final cut timeline filled and renders got glitches between edits.Using files straight from camera is ideal and works very well with Adobe Premiere or Final Cut X, and I highly recommend switching to one of those. You have to know FCP 7 is 32 bits, doesn't support more than one CPU, and is no longer supported by Apple. Chances are, the latest version of FCP 7 is older than your camera and it will stay that way forever. And final cut codec unless you are using a computer from 6 years ago, you are also waiting way longer than you have to for your renders.2.8k Views · View UpvotesRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowWhich Macbook is best for Final Cut Pro?Final Cut Pro: Will Motion 4 be usable on a 13" MacBook Air?Final Cut Pro: How can I fix the error message "Codec not found" when attempting to render footage? Is being proficient with Final Cut Pro X enough to get a job? What is the future of final cut pro x? Is it worth buying and learning? Ben Holmes, Professional FCP editor since 2001Written 189w agoWhilst the files from DSLRs are viewable in FCP7 (as they are generally QuickTime wrappers) the codec is not one that FCP7 supports. With Canon DSLRs there is a handy import plugin which converts the files to ProRes. I am not aware of a similar plugin for Nikon cameras, and Nikon themselves seem to advise using Compressor:https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp....However, Compressor 3.5 is a slow and occasionally unstable piece of software I tend to avoid - you'd be better using something free and quicker like Mpegstreamclip. Alternatively, do yourself a favour and get a modern NLE like FCPX which handles and optimises files from almost all cameras automatically whilst you work. Premier Pro should also work well if you are an Adobe user. Both are available to try free for one month. 2.4k View
not found, no corresponding hardware!(1 viewing)(1) Guest Reply Topic New Topic Page:12 TOPIC: HELP! Codec not found, no corresponding hardware! HELP! Codec not found, no corresponding hardware! 11 years ago #7560 dmb4sa1 OFFLINE Production Assistant Posts: 18 Karma: 0 I was recently working on the tail end of a huge project that has taken me weeks to do. I need to fix this problem before Sunday or I'm screwed. 1. I placed a jpeg photo into the timeline near the end of the video, I was almost finished with the video. 2. The picture made it to the timeline but I got a message saying, "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card." 3. I pressed okay and continued on. From that point on whenever I would put something into the timeline (video or jpeg) that message would come up and I would continue just clicking okay and going on with my project (it was very annoying but I panicked because the client was right there). The other problem was that once I began getting that error message FCP wouldn't allow me to preview my edit at all! The clips and pictures I placed in the timeline would succssesfully make it there (after okaying through the error message) but every time I pressed play in the canvas window I'd get the same error message. 4. I saved everything after finishing the project (which was tough because I couldn't even view what I had done but it was really late and I figured I'd take care of it the next day) and quit FCP. 5. The following morning (today) I opened the project and I immediatly get the same error message again and this time there is no canvas, toolbench, or timeline! And when I go to "window" at the top the three are grayed out. Also under "File" the "Restore project" and "revert" are both grayed out too! I have no access to my project whatsoever. How do I access my project again and once I do, how do I get rid of that error message? I need this by Sunday is there anyone out there that could PLEASE PLEASE help me! Thank you in advance to anyone who will try, I'm desperate right now! Reply Quote Re: HELP! Last week was kind of crazy for me. But I will address this question, despite the fact I am too late, because I am sure others have, and will, encounter the multiple issues addressed here. If you get the message that the "Codec is not found" there is something wrong with the graphic you are trying to place. I have nev
