General Error Final Cut Pro 7
guys, I've done about an hour worth of research now, and cannot figure fcp 7 out of memory error when rendering out why my FCP is doing this. When I import an .mp4 (GoPro HD footage to be exact) it will

be fine. But once I load in say 2 or 3 .mp4 clips into the canvas, it will say "General Error" and pretty much stop working. I have tried to clear the preferences, final cut pro not enough disk space but I don't even have the com.apple. file needed to clear it in there. Also, I've imported numerous .mov files, worth gig's of file memory, and it will load them in there just fine. All i want to do is edit right now and this **** thing keeps crashing.Help me out!Jonny Mac OS X (10.5.8) Posted on Jul 15, 2010 12:15 AM I have this question too larry jordan Close Q: FCP "General Error" "out of memory" ONLY with .mp4 files All replies Helpful answers by the black sun, the black sun Jul 15, 2010 12:19 AM in response to J-tec Level 1 (100 points) Jul 15, 2010 12:19 AM in response to J-tec you need to to convert the .mp4 file into something like ProRes. The video seems to have to be transcoded in order for FCP to accept it (simply copying the video stream from one container to another does not work). Final Cut Pro "Out of Memory" Error…FIXED! Booyah Final Cut! Take that! I dont know if anyone who reads this uses FCP7 but if it even helps one person with this INCREDIBLY annoying problem then its worth confusing some readers. Every once and a while I'll be editing a project and go to render and see this. I know I'm NOT out of memory… In fact, I am currently only using 30% of my RAM. What the hell Final Cut? In searching the web I found a couple solutions that worked for some people but I figured out one that has worked every time this pesky error shows up. Here is a simple timeline where the error popped up. Nothing special. Just some opening graphics, interviews strung back https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2506660?start=0&tstart=0 to back with supers. How could something this simple cause any problems? The sequence settings looked like this. Here's the solution: - Click in the timeline. - Select all (Command+A) - Copy (Command+C) - Right-click in the Browser window and make a "new sequence" - Right-click on the new sequence go to settings. - Manually set the settings to match the original sequence (if it is using Compressor settings of either HDV or H.264 you might https://hiddenmoonproductions.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/final-cut-pro-out-of-memory-error-fixed/ want to change this to some form of ProRes) - Paste the previously copied timeline in the new sequence. (Command+V) - Render! I bet you've never been so happy to see a progress bar have you? Now go get a beer and celebrate while your sequence renders and you feel that warm feeling of relief come over you… Unless you're at work. In that case, GET BACK TO WORK. NEXT >> • FCP "Out of Memory" Error by John Tate on Jun 9, 2011 at 12:13:53 pm I've been trying to render my projects and keep getting the error message "Out of Memory". I've tried mulitple things to fix this, been on the phone https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1134719 with Apple FCP guys, trashed my preferences 37 times, etc etc. I'm working with AVCHD files as https://larryjordan.com/articles/fcp7-general-error/ well as some GFX sent to me by the networks I produce TV shows for. My OLD PowerPC Mac had no issues with this whatsoever. Some other producers I know are having the same issue and we have similiar workflows. I cannot export my sequences either thru the Export tool or thru Compressor. Both fail everytime. I need help, deadlines are approaching and if I can't final cut output my sequences....it will not be good. The only way I was able to find the culprit out of the 300 or so clips I had in the project was by adding them one after the other and trying final cut pro to export. I've also had success fixing this problem once by trashing all my render files and creating a duplicate sequence to work from. Increase the auto save interval, max. undo's etc. and start eliminating. It's painful and time-intensive but as far as I'm aware the only way to get to a corrupted clip. Maybe someone out there knows of a tool that can batch check the integrity of clips and graphics though? Duplicate your sequence, and cut your sequence in half. Try an export? Does it work? Great! We know the problem is in the half you cut. Now, add in half of the half of the sequence you cut. Repeat. Do it until you find the culprit. Do you have any gfx above 3K or 4K, in terms of frame size? I've often seen that cause issues....FCP no likey high res gfx. ~Michael .: michael kammes mpse .: senior applications editor . post workflow consultant .: audio specialist . act fcp . acsr .: michaelkammes.com .: twitter: @michaelkammes .: facebook: /mkammes Hear me pontificate: Speaking Schedule .Return to posts indexReport Post•Re: FCP "Out of Memory" Errorby John Tate on Jun 9, 2011 at 1:58:53 pmThanks Andre' Ok, so I need to trash my render files, not the cache? It has one of the least helpful warning dialogs and is frustratingly difficult to solve. However, I've learned that when a General Error occurs it is almost always related to a bad clip, or a bad render file, in your sequence. Maybe not always, but this should be the first place to check.General Errors most often relate to render problems; either when you are rendering directly during editing, or rendering as part of an export. While there isn't a fast way to fix this, it can be fixed. Before you attempt to fix a General Error, it doesn't hurt to reset your system by doing a Safe Boot.NOTE: Here's an article that explains how to do a Safe Boot: Trouble-Shoot in Five StepsTHINGS TO CHECK1. While Final Cut SHOULD be able to work with video of different frame rates, it can often have problems when a clip with a faster frame rate (say, 30 fps) is put into a slower sequence (say, 23.98 fps). Disable clips with different frame rates and see if the General Error goes away when you render.NOTE: To disable a clip, select it and type Control+B. A clip changes color when it is disabled.2. It is possible that a specific render file became corrupted. This isn't your fault, every so often it just happens. Delete all render files and see if the error goes away.NOTE: To delete all render files associated with a track, turn off the green visibility light, located in the track header on the left of the Timeline, then turn it back on. This is just a quick click - click. If you don't turn the visibility light back on, all clips in that track become invisible.3. Sometimes clips downloaded from sto
