enough disk space. How is this possible when the external HD I am working fcpx (error -1). with has 897.85 GB available? Is there a limit in the actual sofware itself as to how many files it can hold?

Is there a maximum limit for file space in FCP? I know it's not a drive issue, I have plenty of space on my drive for even large video files.Return to posts indexReport Post •Re: Render error: insufficient disk spaceby Gary Milligan on Nov 29, 2011 at 3:21:25 amHave you set that external drive as your 'Scratch Disk'? This is me - this is what I do - http://web.mac.com/garymmw Return to posts indexReport Post•Re: Render error: insufficient disk spaceby Zoe Weslowski on Nov 29, 2011 at 4:39:16 amOk So, if I set at the scratch disk, does that mean that I have to also reinstall the actual software onto the external drive? I am somewhat familiar with that term, but I'm not sure how I go about setting that.Return to posts indexReport Post•Re: Render error: insufficient disk spaceby Zoe Weslowski on Nov 29, 2011 at 5:14:25 amOOOHHHHH I get it!!!! I did remember that! I just watched a tutorial on how to set that. OK, I think I understand what is happening. The scratch is set to the Hard Drive on the lap top, which has limited space, so as files are being created in FCP, and they are big files with all the rendering and what not, they are taking up ALL that very little space that I have on the lap top HD. SOOO, if I set the scratch for the External HD which has PLENTY of space ALL those files I am importing and working with in FCP should be stored on the external and so that would resolve my space issue with the project. That's either right, or sounds totally crazy and at this point, I don't know what the hell it is.Return to posts indexReport Post•Re: Render error: insufficient disk spaceby Joseph Hung on Nov 29, 2011 at 5:11:51 pmHi Zoe, that is correct. You generally want to keep your "Final Cut Pro Documents" on the external

I`m editing a project from my machine to other machine in the network (where https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1148318 the project was created) and where all the stuff are stored (media, project, scratch disk etc…) and my scratch disk leads to this network computer…I've already erased all the stuff from Render Manager but I still have the same message "render error: insufficient disk space"…Do you know why?Larry replies: Yes, you just need to create more free space https://larryjordan.com/articles/more-render-space-needed/ on your hard disk by deleting files you don't need. The amount of required free space is determined by Final Cut Pro > System Settings > General tab -- the Minimum Free Space setting. Make sure it is NOT less than 2500. My general recommendation is 10000.Bookmark the permalink.Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published. a Final Cut Video and when i try to render the footage so it is viewable i get this message. "Render Error: Insufficient disk space. Free up space with the Render Manager and retry?" But http://www.mac-help.com/threads/final-cut-pro-help-asap.11367/ i have tried that and there is not enough? Something is wrong because the video is on a external hard drive with 1.83 TB remaining and final cut is on there too so there clearly is enough space. I can't figure out what to do. Please give step by step directions on how to fix the problem. drkinnes, Jun 4, 2011 #1 Advertisements Kaveman VIP Member Joined: Nov 26, 2010 Messages: 3,559 Location: Westland, NZ Check where final cut your scratch files are. An is it connected by USB or Firewire? For example, USB drives are not designed for video ... video needs a steady stream as opposed to the bursts from USB. Firewire drives that spin at 7200 are what you really need. You may encounter additional throughput/playback, etc., issues with using USB. Just for the record, to check the format of the external drive just select it's icon and then press the key & the I key to bring up the Get Info window. Look beside: "Format" .... it should read "Mac OS Extended". Can you please check your Render Scratch Settings in System Settings ~> Scratch Disc Tab. If the Scratch files are being written to your Mac's internal HD then you need to change it to your Ext HD. Select System Settings. click 'Set' and choose which directory you want the capt
